Silkie thread!

Here's one for you.

I have 2 ladies sitting on eggs. I have chicks coming and I want one of the girls to take care of them. The questions are: 1. Which hen do I give the chicks to, the one who's raised chicks before or the one who's laying on eggs the first time? 2. will the other hen abandon her eggs because she doesn't have chicks? will she want to try and take the chicks from the other hen?

My silkies are 4.5 weeks old. Any thoughts on sexing yet? I can't tell the first 3 apart at all but the 4th is smaller than the others so I recognize that one.

Thanks to everyone who checked out our partridge silkie cock for sale. He is going to a new home this week. For some reason, I can not close that classified and open a new one. So, if anyone is interested we now have a 4 week old PQ partridge in need of a good pet home. Please PM if you are interested.

Aoxa - So then what you're saying is that splash is blue. No matter what. I guess I'm thinking that splash would be like the broken colors in rabbits. A broken black is black & white, a broken chocolate is chocolate & white, broken red, broken opal... Or like for hamsters a mottled blue is blue & white, So what you're saying is it isn't white mixed with another color? Guess that's how I was thinking. But - at any rate - here are pics of my bantam Cochins that I picked up on Saturday. 2 black splash, 1 blue splash. Just so you know what I'm talking about. To me, that isn't lighter & darker shades of blue, the 2 on the right are clearly black. Know what I mean?

Are you sure you're not thinking of mottled colors? They have blue mottled and black mottled. Splash is just splash.
This is what it says for splash in the standard of perfection:

Way too young to tell gender. You'll have to wait for another 2-3 months or so before you can tell.

We had a downpour that lasted about 10 minutes in which we got a half inch of rain yesterday. The silkies were out, of course, while we were gone for a bit, and a few got soaked but loved it.
This is one of my 3 month old chicks.

On a much less humorous note, my very favorite girl, the one in my avatar, is missing. Haven't seen her in 2 days. No trace of an attack, but I fear that's what happened.
