Silkie thread!

ahh, ok that makes sense. then I'll wait until they hatch the ones they're sitting on, then I'll give them to them. I thought I read that broody hens would accept chicks no matter when. Oh well :)

how do I tape the feet again? I'm going to wait until the morning as it is still wet.
cut out a foot shaped piece of index card and tape it to the bottom of the foot. you can use vet wrap or a bandaid or medical tape to tape the foot flat on the card

GOT SOME NEW BABIES!!!

I went to the feed store to pick them up expecting the usual white and black...boy was I surprised. Need a little help on colors for some, so what do ya'll think?

Blue

2
Blue

3
Not sure on this one, maybe a partridge?

4
Partridge

5
Probably splash

6(has pink front toes)
Probably another blue, much darker than the others. I'm not sure how dark this chick is in real life. Looks like the colors are a little washed in the picture.

7(yellow with tan accents)
Buff

8
Partridge

9
Buff

10 (looks kinda silvery)
Another splash, I think.

I'm not a 100% sure on all colors, especially 3 and 6. I'm not an expert, so someone who knows better, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think I've MAYBE posted 5 times on this thread since it started. LOL I have bought so many Silkie eggs to hatch with only one ever hatching out and most completely clear. Thank you PO!! I do have a few though. I had more before my husband died and when I told him I was going to sell of all but one roo, he also told me not to get rid of my black one. He used to watch him and think he was so funny. I don't have any of those birds any longer and for a long long time I not only wasn't getting any eggs (Like 10 a year combined!) and the few I hatched out I placed. Not one was broody till this year and I have one that hasn't used her legs much in weeks. I move her and by morning, there she is again. I'm going to be setting some eggs under her if she's till wants to set in about a week, But I do a a baby pic of one I hatched last month. This is at maybe 2 hrs old. I think I'm going to find a place so I can have even more space for more of these. Like I couldn't just stick them in a purse! LOL

Finally I add a pic to this thread.

Here is what I "think" happened, let me know what you think of my theory. All 3 chicks came from my pullet (splash) as all eggs from my hen have been infertile, she refuses roosters. The big white and the little white one have the black dad (came from same breeder as the splash pullet, I suspect potential inbreeding)... and the darker colored chick must have the splash rooster.... can that be? the darker chick has white on its head in a couple of places and under its belly. but I'm probably wrong bc really I dont' know much about this yet, I'm learning. But it is a completely different color and the other chick that hatched out who died, was also the whitish color.

Do you think that the lack of pigment in the white chicks are from inbreeding? and that is why the darker one is black like it should, because it has a different dad?

My little chickies, 2 weeks old now.

This little self-blue was a tough one to photograph. It was always hiding. Easter Egger chick, Spot on the other hand, was quite photogenic.

See...there's that self-blue again. Hiding! lol
