Silkie thread!

I did a windy day photo shoot yesterday of one of my self-blue (lavender) cockerels. This was my favorite shot.
Oh, he's cute.

Hi, posted this https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread/35350#post_11278338 a couple of days ago, and by doing some research was very worried about mareks but now I think could be a severe leg mites infestation, Im so sorry and ashamed about this boy bad situation, but this is our first experience with chickens and did not realized it was the problem, to tell the truth I thougth that was the normal appearence of a chicken foot (how stupid!). My questions are : Is this actually a case of leg mites? could leg mites cause him to be unable to walk? If not something else is going on, but I have to start by stopping the infestation, how to do it? Ive read that vaseline works, what your experience and opinions are? and finally can anyone send me a picture of a healthy silkie s leg/foot?
Thanks so much!

To get rid of leg mites I would use Vaseline and just smother them in it. Other people use other things but that is what I have used in the past. I also wanted to say that my white non bearded silkie will be for sale for $25 at the show in Canfield, Ohio on the 8th of June. She will be in the show. If anyone is interested ahead of time for her please PM me.

I think I would cover his legs and feet in Nu-Stock for a while - check this out. Read through and you will see how it talks about using it for scale mites. Even if it's not scale mites, it might help - I am sure others will comment as well and share advice.

Thanks for all in responses on my chicks, they sure are cute. I just finished off my gate today for the free run, so the silkies can go outside and play in the grow out pen. So excited. I will have to get some pictures of them outside, maybe with that lighting it will be better on their colors. Now I just have to wait for a warm day to put them out. Today its about 72, and extremely windy, its going to rain the next few days so they say on the news. Hopefully Wed or Thursday it will be warm enough for them to go out for a few hours.
