Silkie thread!

One of the chicks.

My dearly departed girl, at around 7 or 8 months.

My 3 and a half month old babies are looking so much like the hen I lost, I'm so happy

I'm a little bummed because I think they're both pullets, I was hoping for a nice cockerel
hmm.png
I think one has a slipped wing though (not this one, the other one)! It folds it really weird. Is there any hope that it will correct, or should I just plan not to breed?

Just gorgeous!! If your slipped wing girl is really outstanding, it might be worth doing a test breeding.
Today, the chicks got to go outside for the first time! They all stood there in the yard like "Oh my God, what do we do???!?!"

And then the brave little Easter Egger, Spot, decided it was time to investigate and the others followed. Spot is always the first one to do everything. She(?) learned how to dust bathe first. Learned how to scratch around in dirt first and just generally does everything first.

I hope Spot is a girl, then she can stick around.

My little self-blue is much smaller than the others but he/she was giving the others a run for their money today!

This chick was finding all sorts of things on the ground and running around with the others chasing him/her, trying to steal the food.
Awwww! They are looking great!
So adorable! I just gave my whole brood baths

I think you used the hair dryer from the wrong end.

My little Marbles is coming along nicely I think. I was gone for 4 days this weekend and during that time, she grew a beard! Here are some iPhone photos... real ones to come soon!

"Are you sure its necessary to groom me?"

She is about 8 weeks old now.

Wet feet, they had fun...

Lovely chick!

How did they do while you were gone?
Marbles looks good.

btw, those are just 2 of the 8 chickens I had to bathe lol

What do you use to dry them? You had some sort of a drier they use for grooming dogs, right? I like the bathing part, but blow drying. Forget it! It' takes forever.

I could also give them to my silkies, but they're sitting on eggs right now. wouldn't they toss them out of the nest because they're not moving inside like the ones ready to hatch on tuesday?
will she sit on them until saturday if her chicks aren't due until mon or tuesday though? or will she abandon them right away?
Your hen will stop sitting on the eggs eventually because the first batch of eggs hatched. I would just wait for a couple days and then put the eggs in the bator. Did you already get the eggs or are you still waiting for them?

I got the eggs this morning, but they're supposed to sit for 24 hours pointy side down. so they'd be ready to put in tomorrow. I didn't know if one days difference is going to change the hatch rate a lot. she sent them tuesday, so they were probably laid sunday or monday?

Congratulations! Your light colored girl is called "splash". Beware! Silkies are addictive!

I haven't settled on a name for this girl yet, but she is my favorite of my four silkie chicks. She is so dainty. She is also terribly skittish. All of my other chicks jump on my shoulder, my lap, eat out of my hand, and come to see me whenever I'm in their room. I'm not sure what to do. Is she going to be like this forever? Is constantly afraid a personality type? I really want to cuddle her.

I tried to give my broody a few chicks but she really wasn't having it. I still got a few pictures before I had to take the chicks away again.
