Silkie thread!

Raising 6 kids is rough on a woman

Her crest and beard were trimmed, she plucked her belly feathers, her tail has lost a lot of fluff, her foot feathers are mostly broken, and her face is nearly always dirty now. She's back to laying again, I put 4 of her eggs underneath the perpetually broody duo (seriously. They've raised 2 broods so far this year, and want a third) in the pile house.

2 of her chicks (she didn't raise these, she raised 6 mixed LF chicks) by blood. 3 1/2 months. They always stick together.

Love that soft pink photo!

ok, so none of those eggs have hatched and I think they've all died. Will my hens ever stop sitting on them? do I need to take them away?

I have started my first breeding pen!!!

Here they are; Ace and his girls Missy (black) & Iris (blue).

So this is my first time breeding. I'm very excited! Then there's generation 2. This is my self-blue chick out of eggs I purchased.

So jealous of you all! You're silkies are all so cute. The two hatchery stock that I have, just don't seem that fluffy. Maybe they'll grow into it, she is only 2 and half months old, so hopefully she still has hope :)

Question regarding Silkie Roo's pretty please? Mine discovered his "special purpose" a couple of months ago and now one of his ladies has gone broody. Is there a chance that he's actually fertile yet?

Usually those hatchery chicks don't turn out quite as fluffy as the good quality breeding birds. I believe hatcheries hatch for quantity, not quality. If you want a bird that has lots of fluff, I recommend contacting a breeder. Either way, I think your chick is very cute.

Be prepared to raise that number where you draw the line when you get Silkies because they are very addicting! lol
