I think with silkied feathers it would be called Silver Partridge because the penciling will fuzz out unless the chick gets smooth feathers like its momma. It does look like it is getting the Penciling on the wings.

Do you know what the cross is to get that coloring? Its really pretty.

I have a Sizzle x Silkie that looks as if it might have smooth feathers - and the proper Partridge markings. Will be interesting to see how close the Partridge Silkies actually look to Partridge patterning on other birds.

At the moment, the silver girl's pattern looks like lacing, not penciling. But she is young enough that I would not call her plumage adult, and exactly what the pattern will be in her adult plumage is the real question. Penciling is sometimes called multiple lacing. Poultry Genetics for Exhibition Breeders shows the following photos of penciling, lacing and double lacing.

Silkie Hatchers.....got a question. What humidity do you LD and keep your eggs at? I usually do not have a problem but the last couple I did. I had humidity around 45-50 ..temp 99..and the liquid inside the eggs got goey and the chicks died..one even zipped but was not able to pop out of the shell...on the others it seemed like the inside of the egg/chick dried out. I have always done mine like I mentioned above and don't know what changed. I am thinking the humidity should be higher...right?

The humidity should be higher at hatching time. I don't remember what the numbers should be exactly, I have my papers somewhere, but I think it was something like 85-90%. Maybe 80-85%. Somewhere up there.

She crossed a grey silkie roo with a paint sizzle hen. Yeah try and get that combo....lol

Um...  what size is your bantam?  Silkies are bantams too.  I have some Bantams that are about their size, a few smaller and a few larger.  I also had a silkie hen in with a full size rooster - and when he would step on her and she flattened out he couldn't do anything - so he just walked off.

If she is at least half his size - he won't hurt her.  You may find some odd looking chicks later down the road though....

I came across this article thought I would share it. Anyone have any experiance with sexing their silkies this way. My silkie doesn't have bumps on the comb like in this picture but it isn't exactly smooth.

The paint doesn't look like a paint but the rest look right

The one you called paint is not paint. It is likely a grey (silver partridge). Chocolate is very rare to see in a silkie. You'll have to wait until it matures. It looks like a dark partridge.

The Paint does look like a Silver Partridge or Grey. Sometimes Paint breedings can produce some odd things. We just hatched 10 Paint eggs from a breeder and had two Partridge chicks in the mix.

Correct. My chocolates have all been much lighter at hatch than this.

The "chocolate" has me totally confused so it will be interesting to see how she turns out.

Hahaha that video I saw the single clip of that rooster crowing for like a whole min about 2 weeks ago I watched it over and over and was crying. You know the neighbors love them.
