Silkie thread!

Um... broody is contagious and can be transmitted to any Silkie in the vicinity. Quarantine is necessary to prevent the spread of this disease. The end results are a complete stop in egg production, extreme feather loss, huge smelly poops, odd activity like running around with their wings spread clucking and squalling, growling and possibly pecking at you if you try and move them when they are laying down and not moving for hours, and an eventual increase in the chicken count. The benefits are they are so cute to watch...

I cant wait!! But this is so funny!

My babies are getting big!!

*sniff sniff* Today they moved outside to the Silkie Colony with the adult birds. This was their second day outside with the other birds. No one said "boo" so I felt it was safe to leave the babies outside. Just in case someone changes their mind on their good behavior, the are sleeping in their cage which I placed inside of the coop. This way I can sleep peacefully....I think.

Does anyone else get dramatic about these things?? lol

There they are! All huddled together out in the big world. No more supervised backyard play time. lol

Awww! I just put out three chicks with the big birds this week because they kept flying out of the brooder and I worried about them because everyone else in the coop is a month and a half to two months old. It's a mixed breed coop, silkies, sex links, Australorps, RIRS and SLWS. But we've had no problems. Hopefully your little guys will do fine with the other chickens.

Thinking Snow's neck is getting crooked again =/ I will check on him again tomorrow to see if it is getting even worse. He had bad wryneck as a baby and it may be coming back. He seems to tilt his head to the right slightly, and I watched him crow today and instead of holding his head up straight to do it he held it sideways and crowed out to the side
hu.gif
His crow also sounds like someone is strangling him still. I can post a picture, I think I have one. It isn't always like that, but a good amount of the time, he always seems to be calking his head to that side... could it just be a permanent head tilt I am just noticing because I am overprotective and some of the others are sick too?

doing it

not doing it

oh and also, Ice is getting red in her waddles? Also her comb is getting a little larger. Is this just her maturing?

I thought that River, my Lavender with wry neck was getting better, but today had it badly. His head was touching the ground, and his face was turned all the way around like "The Exorcist". :(

Hey all whew I missed a lot lol. Been soo busy trying to build coops, get the yard straight, trying to get rid of flys, putting the finishing touches on the incubator..etc. Hope everyone is doing well, this heat is about to kill me! Got my eggs from Kelar yesterday and I am SUPER excited I thought I missed her auction yet again but I caught it just in time. They came packed perfectly each egg individually wrapped in bubble wrap. Maybe ya'll can help me with the abbreviations, I have Por, which I'm guessing is porcelain but then there is PA and P. which one would be paint or partridge? the others were obvious BLK black, W white, L lavender, and so on. except W52 i'm not sure about that one either.

Snow was like that when he was 3 weeks old, that's why i'm wondering if it's coming back... I'm going to start giving them vitamins again, probably the vita-pro-b concentrate from first state. I'm going to give him the rest of the poly-vi-sol I have though until I can get it.

Por is Procelain
Pa is paint
P is Partridge
w 2 is probably white pen 2 I don't know what the 5 would be unless it is a cursive lower case "H" or something.
