Very small runt chicks can take a few weeks to really grow.Thank you, She was the smallest out of the ones I had to choose from and I was making sure she wasn't looking like a runt. She is definitely the smallest out of my chicks I got that day.
So very sorry. Your a good chicken mom....Thunderhead is sick. He is lethargic with diarrhea, so I figured cocci. And it was just sudden. He was fine before we took our daughter to camp, but was weak when we came back four hours later. We took him to the emergency vet last night in hopes we could get some medicine for him since no store was open where I could get any sort of treatment or supplies to hand feed him. They didn't have any cocci medication, but did have syringes, etc. so I could get food and fluids into him and gave me some antibiotics to use if he doesn't show improvement after 24 hours on cocci meds (the whole flock's getting medicated, too). They were limited in their knowledge of chickens, but at least were willing to take a look at him and give me syringes I needed to get Pedialyte into him. He made it through the night without taking a turn for the worse, but there's no improvement. I'm up early today to get some cocci medicine at the local farm store. I've already lost two weak, young chicks and eight six-week-olds to raccoons. My heart will break if I lose another silkie.
