Yes, those are Silkie eggs. The first one sure looked darker. congratulations!
God why is it always the favorite I had a gut feeling something was wrong with it and now this has happened. I feel like such an awful chicken mom. It's been an awful day here, my fiancé had a tooth pulled and is in major pain right now and I'm left dealing with this all alone.. I sure hope she makes it, she is the sweetest little thing. And he says I can't get any more after this b/c he doesn't want to watch me go through another chick dying![]()
No, the electrolytes are good too. Just take a tablespoon of water, put a pinch of sugar (1/8 teaspoon?) in it and let it dissolve - then dip the chick's beak in it. Hopefully it will perk right up.Should I dump out the electrolytes and give it sugar water? How much sugar should I use per quart?
Tried it I'm watching for a second I thought she was gone but she opened her eyes again. I am not sure what else I could do. She's always slept a lot more than my other birds and never put up any find of fight when I would put my hand in the brooder. I hope I didn't miss the early signs of this starting.. She's sleeping over the food bowl now and the others are in the other corner sleeping. Could I possibly stress her out more by Handling her so much right now?
I am praying for both of your chicks!!!!Yes, just let her be for now. You have given her enough to survive if she is going to. There is what is called "failure to thrive" in the very young chicks - those that are "saved" by extraordinary measures usually die later on I have found. And they don't have much of a life.... so I now do what I can and let nature take its course - although it never gets any easier to watch it![]()
I have one I am watching now too - didn't catch the lethargy earlier on either. I did the poultry drench and water routine and am hoping for the best.
for both our chicks.
