Silkie thread!

Hi,

Counting days is tough sometimes, people say if you set them in the morning you count that day as day one - if you set them in the evening you count the next day as day one.

However - locking down the egg early does not hurt them. I have read that anytime after the 14th day those embryos are moving around on their own - so turning isn't so crucial after that time. The way I counted Wednesday was lockdown (18 days) and they are due to hatch tomorrow. (21 days).

Good luck, and lots of

Thanks so much! I set them early evening, so I guess tomorrow (Sat). Now, I can take my poison ivy face to bed and rest easily. Pam

In search of Fertile Silkie bantam Hatching Eggs in Cuckoo Coloration. 12-18 of them preferably, and I thought this might be a good place to post about me looking for some :) I have silkie/showgirl eggs due to hatch out this up-coming week, but the cuckoo's that I had bought all were duds :( The P.O did a number on them, and most were scrambled upon arrival or had broken air cells, and neither of the 2 that were "alive" when candled made it past day 14. Oh the joys of shipping hatched eggs lol

May also be interested in cuckoo adults if I could find a pair. Please PM me if you have any, and I'll respond and can pay promptly via paypal.

Thought I'd share a picture of one of my silkie babies at a few days old, she's a beautiful splash now, I need to get new photos of her

Where are you located? I think I saw something on either this thread or another silkie thread about someone in PA who does cuckoo's.

These are my silkie chicks, Pearl (light one) & opal (blue one)
Love them

I remember poison oak (like ivy - it grows out here) face. That was so uncomfortable. I haven't had that in years now, thank goodness. If you haven't already looked into it - there is a homeopathic poison oak/ivy medication that I swear by. I use it all the time - no side effects and it stops the itching within about 5 minutes. I can't do cortozone, I have a bad allergic reaction to that. I used to get poison oak really bad, now I get one or two bumps, scratch it a bit - realize what is was - take the tablets and wash the area to get rid of any more oils and it goes away. Gave it to a 5 year old with an intense case of poison oak and she was fine in about 5 minutes - her mom said she had been in agony for almost half a day, they were on the way to the doctor... My mother had poison oak in her system so bad she would break out in a rash in all the uncomfortable places every time it got hot. I finally got her to try it - now she keeps a bottle on hand also - and hasn't had an outbreak because of heat since then. I find mine at the drug store in the poison oak medication area, sometimes you have to ask. Two pills under the tongue every 2 hours - and it builds up an immunity to the poison too. It does contain milk products if you are allergic to milk don't take them.

I have a color question about this rooster I got from a rescue agency (overcrowding conditions). He is dominate over my blue rooster and I am wondering if I should separate them so my blue rooster has a chance with the hens (mostly BBS). I think this rooster would be called partridge since he is not solid colored like my buff hens but he does not look like my partridge hen either. What color is he? I had to shut down my phone and edit this to add the pictures since they were not showing up in my gallery.

Since I am asking about color, I am also wondering about two older chicks that are white with black spots. My splash Silkies are a blue color with spots but these two girls are white with dark spots. Are they splash, paint, or a "dirty" white? I have pictures from the breeder but I have not taken a picture of the two on my phone to post.

Top darker one looks grey, lighter one is hard to tell with the glare

So- around the time I was posting this, an eggs pipped. Seems like all of mine pip the midnight before they hatch. One has hatched (during a power outage!!) Luckily, I keep my brother's generator, because our power company never keeps it going for 21 consecutive days! This on is light blue. :) Pam
