I don't know enough about the crests to tell if they would be targets for picking..

They are in my "halfway' coop before they can go into the big coop, I didn't even think about putting my EE's in with them, will they be ok with the roo and cochin in there as well?

You can try it, and watch them. Sometimes the Silkies will "adopt" the younger ones - even the rooster. I don't know about the cochin though... If the Silkie rooster/hen start clucking at the chicks and calling them over to get food then they will be fine. If they growl/screech at them and chase them off - then don't leave them in there.

Sookie has a big crest but Johnny looks like he can see. If he is your only rooster he will probably break up any scuffles before they get very far... Sookie might not want to go to sleep on the high perches though.

Funny, I would have called the Buff Silkie "Goldie" Hawn....

I know we had got Goldie about a month before the silkies so she was named first lol.. My husband and I seriously considered naming the silkies Ike and Tina

heehee! I am going to see how they react to one another this weekend, thanks so much for the advice!! I am going to also have some lower nesting boxes put in the big coop just in case they all can go in together. The perch is already low, about a foot off the ground. I will post how it all works out.

Thanks again!!

I am new to chickens and I have started out with 3 red sexlinks and a white leghorn, they are 15 weeks. I soon got a cochin who is 18 weeks, now I have a silkie roo that is 1 year and a silkie hen that is 1 1/2 years. I also have 3 easter egger chicks that are 2 weeks and 1 that is 1 week. My question is can my chickens all live in harmony or am I going to have to keep my silkies and cochin separate in their own coop and run? I have them separated from the others now, as well as the young EE's. I have been looking for info on intergrating them together but I don't see much helpful info. Any info will be much appreciated. I just wont stand to see one of my babies get hurt. I love them all so much!!

I found that when I tried to integrate my five week old silkie to a flock of 19 week old red sex links and SLW that they were aggressive towards her. I separated her with my broody silkie in a smaller coop for the silkies to grow up, they'd be introduced once the silkie was at least sixteen weeks old. I found that the older ones bullied the baby, that's why we kept them apart.

Help Guys!!
My Porcelain chick is acting droopy and very sleepy this morning. I brought her inside and put her with the younger chicks. She was running around and doing fine yesterday. Any thoughts!! I don't want to lose this little one. She is on medicated chick starter and water with ACV.

That is sometimes a sign of cocci. Even though you have them on medicated chick starter that does not contain enough medication to stop the cocci if they get overexposed to it.

Were the chicks recently introduced to the outside? If so - I would start treating all the outside chicks for cocci. Sulmet or Corid. You will not see bloody poops until it is too late for the weakest ones...

Bringing her inside and putting her with the younger ones just exposed all your younger ones to cocci too if that is what she has. Next time, do a quarantine of any suspected problem bird - away from anybody - but bring a "friend" in so it doesn't get lonely. Cat crates make great quarantine areas.

I had 5 silkies hatch out recently from a lavender split roo x black hen and the same roo x splash hen. (Only one egg was from the black hen and ended up being a partridge chick) I sold the two partridge chicks that hatched and kept the blues. However I'm wondering if all three are true blues or if one is a splash? I have a dark blue, a lighter blue and then one that looks blue but has some yellow feathering as well. Are they all just different shades of blue? Here are some pics....

And my dark blue baby-love this one but it only has 4 toes :-(
What color is the roo? I would say these lighter ones are splash or lavender. They can only be lavender though if the hen was also a split.

This lil guy was born with these weird feathers...I thought it was bumps on the skin but a closer look and seen his little feathers are rough looking, what could cause this? The other silkies born were smooth.
This is caused by a slow feathering gene. I see it a lot in my self-blue babies. It will take a few weeks for the feathers to catch up but it will be normal in the end. :)

Awww.... So sorry! Wish I could help but I don't have any experience with sick chicks. Hope it's not cocci.
