Silkie thread!

Thank you and would 4 eggs work?
Well you can't ''make'' a hen go broody because it's a hormonal instinct, when a hen see's a clutch of eggs about 7 or more they instinctly wa to go broody and set. And hens no and like a nestbox thats on the ground of the coop because they no chicks cant get in tall nestboxes and they like to go broody on the ground so put fake eggs, eggs,or golfballs or let the hens keep laying eggs in the nest and the silkie should go broody

Okay so confused about incubators. There are way too many for someone who has zero experience to know choose from. What is the general incubator that y'all feel is good to go with?

It might but usally 7-10 or more works best and remember you can also use golfballs
golfballs don't work on my girls .. i had a broody hen i moved and gave her some golfballs and she just looked at me like i was crazy lol ... i use them they ignore it but thats just my girls it could work for others hens but not mine .. mine will only go broody or think about it unless they a lot of eggs there or some of my hens will go broody on 2-3 eggs

In order to get a variety of colored chicks, I have decided to get a black hen, a partridge hen, and a white hen and a buff rooster. I am going to get one more rooster and two more hens, but I am unsure of what colors to get. Mainly, I think of splash, blue, and paint. But to me, all of those colors seem so similar. The only other colors I can think of are porcelain or lavender which I don't fully understand what they look like. If I were to get two more hens and one rooster, what colors would you suggest they be to create the most variety in colored chicks? I just don't want duplicated colors because I want a colorful flock with each chicken being differently colored. I would really love to hear what other people's opinions are. Thank you.

When my silkies go broody they try to hatch out a rock! I always have golf balls in the nesting box to deter egg eaters. When someone goes broody I stick fertile eggs under them, that's the best incubator money can buy. I haven't had too much success with the electric kind

The auto turner packed it in on the first one, so they sent me another one, same thing happened.
The upside is they refunded my money, and now I have 2 x incubators that I have to turn manually. Still works, we are hatching out chicks as I type. JN 8-48 is the brand.
