My son's very first show!
Aww cute
Love your Silkies! I have two, one white and one that the seller told me might be a pheasant in color. He or she is turning out to be a very pretty bird. At right at 2 months he has blue around his ears and his feathers are a brownish color with lighter spots on them. They still have a lot of their fuzzy "feathers" but the darker one has no sign of a comb or waddle while the white one has a pinkish/crandberry colored comb which is just showing up. The man I bought them from said he thinks the white one is a pullet. I haven't been able to get a really good picture of them but will continue to try and post them as soon as I can.

onyx my black silkie hen went broody before but she was very quite but would stay fluffed up .. she is like that now .. she was on the nest oh most all day yesterday and last night and still on them right now ... she has 6 small eggs under her but they sometimes pop out from underneath her .. so i didn't know if she could hold them all or notNot if they are Silkie eggs. Does she stay on the nest constantly all day and night and only come off for about 15 minutes and run around with her wings spread making funny noises and chasing everybody away? Leaving one humungous and very stinky poop and eating as if she was starved and drinking water until her whole front is soaking wet and running back to the nest? If she doesn't do that, then she isn't really broody yet. She may be thinking about it though.

Broody Hens are super-incubators. They will rotate the eggs from the middle to the outside to regulate the temperatures at which the embryos grow so the batch will all hatch out at about the same time. The can only modify it by a few days though, so do not let her have any more eggs after she really sets. Mark what she does have and remove the rest - or you will end up having half-baked (growing) and dead chicks in the shell when she leaves the nest to take care of the already hatched ones.Since you do not have an incubator to finish them its best not to let her start them.![]()
Thanks so much for the information. I did post pictures but they are on the right side of the screen instead of with my post. Must be because I don't have 20 posts yet. They are listed as recent posts. They have grown quite a bit since the pictures were taken and the white seems to still be larger than the Partridge. The Partridge has no sign of a wattle nor a comb. Just a black space above it's beak. We lost the whites first "friend" to a snake which tried to eat it but couldn't get it all down so it spit it out. That just made me sick. It was a loving little bird. When that happened the white one became very loving, sitting on my lap and climbing onto my shoulder. However, when we got the other one I became "chopped liver" and it didn't and still doesn't have much time for me. It will still follow me around but doesn't want me to pick it up much. When I do it will settle right down and let me love on it but the dark one just squawks its head off. My fault as I have not paid as much attention to it. Need to change that very soon, especially if it is a hen. I love the information I have been able to find on this site and want to thank you for your help. I will post pictures as they grow up.![]()
