Silkie thread!

If you always use the same products, your birds might have built up a resistance to it.  Give her a bath with a dog/cat flea/tick shampoo, and make sure to thoroughly rub the shampoo into her scalp and leave it for the recommended time before rinsing.  Not all mites and lice are visible to the naked eye.  Also, some mites only emerge from cracks and crevasses at night to feed on the bird, so even with carefully looking through her featehrs you might not find them.

Ive only had her a few months so i doubt its resistance as the previous owner did not use my methods. Her coup is made of smoth clear plastic tub with beding i change out as well. No cracks or anything for them to hide. Im aware of those what i call micro mites. I swabbed a bird with them and found them under a microscope before. I could barely see the large ones with my eyes (ive got sharp sharp eyes). I checked her and did not find any. I added another bird last week and it shows no signs of this yet.

Ill try a flea shampoo anyway just in case. Cant hurt.

Any other ideas? Could i put vasaline on her head for the dry scalp??

PS sorry for errors on my phone again :/

Last week I hatched thirteen chicks. All but one in the second set hatched. I was about to throw it away today since its been a week, but when I picked up it chirped! That's 28 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm soooooo excited!!! My little Nugget is FINALLY getting her feathers back, she's lowest in the pecking order amongst the year old hens but bullies the spring flock something fierce!?!? I'm hoping she won't be picked bald again by winter...her little jacket she wears Works Like a Charm!!!

They have quite a bit of room.  We have the coop they can roam in and out of all day, a small covered yard to get out of the weather and a much larger area for them to forage in.  I'm not sure of the size of it, but every single chicken can be out in it and everybody has personal space.

If you have the room and resources I would go ahead and build another coop just incase need arises. You can always use it as a breeding pen or grow out coop. I have a bunch of roos too and only had trouble with A Leghorn being a bully. I got rid of him and everyone else gets along fine. I even have turkeys and goats in the same barn.

Okay so I know that it's completely unpredictable, and some might disapprove, but what's the most optimal breed to cross a silkie with? I have some lovely cochins. Also I doubt this is likely since everyone has trouble sexing them, but is it possible to sex chicks by wing length? I have several chicks right now some with different lengths and some with same length wing feathers. So I was wondering if it worked, I'll follow up on it as they grow because I'm obsessive, but I don't want to get my hopes high that I have tons of pullets if it's absolutely not true
