Silkie thread!

Thanks for the comments chicken mama, nook nook & mandy. I know for sure the rooster is white. The mama could be white, black or grey partridge. I would love for them to be porcelain but I think the colors I have don't compute to porcelain! I have included pictures of three of the possible moms. The other possible mom is all white. The white roo pictured is dad. The other roo is in the in the partridge mamas background. Thanks again.

Love the roo in last picture. I find I like Red in my Silkies.

I came home today and found a 5 days old silkie dead and another not moving around as much as usual.  The crop was mostly full.  Looked normal.  They have only been on papertowels since hatching and only had medicated chick start, vitamin b complex and Nutri Drench.  Any ideas?  Their poops look normal.  Any ideas?

It would help if you post a pic of there set up. Make sure their not to hot and can get away from the heat. Sounds like a lot of vitamins, maybe to much? Very sorry you lost one hope the rest are ok.

There is plenty of room for them to get away from the heat. This is my 15 hatch, so my set up should be fine. I have given all chicks I've hatched the same vitamins. I think the others are fine.

In the US all Silkies are Bantams - there are no Large Fowl. Some Silkies are smaller than others, my hatchery girl is half the size of my breeder quality girls.

I am unsure what the question on color is, if they are light gray they may be "Blue" and Charcoal is "Black" and Black x Blue will give you Black and Blue. If the birds are two tone in color they may be Silver Partridge or Gray.

I have a Silkie with my large fowl - but not in with the big roosters. She is hatchery quality and can see very well - I wouldn't put my BQ/SQ flock in there - they would get picked on too much because they can't see trouble coming.

Ok, so they have a hard time seeing? Are they okay to roam outside during the day with the others? Or, are they mainly kept in enclosed areas? We just have a 1/2acre but my hens kind of have a pattern to their roaming and stay close to house and coops and on the hillside under the scrub oaks...the Silkies I was looking at are 1 week approx. and some were really dark and the others light grey, I didn't know what the colors were as adults, maybe the black and blue. Thanks!

My splash silkie girl started not being able to walk well a couple weeks back. I separated her about a week ago, and she still is having problems.
Does anyone know how long it would take for her to be able to walk on it?? it has been over 2 weeks and she can't put weight on it. I wonder if it is really broken, or if there is something else wrong??

I have a 6-7 month old Silkie who has gone broody. We don't have a separate place to put her to brake her. Is that the only way to do it ? And for how long ?

Weeeellll.... Silkies are notorious for going broody - and not breaking no matter what you try. You can continue to take her eggs away so she can't hatch any, but be prepared for months of her sitting on that nest. Make sure she has access to food and water or she can get too weak. If you throw her off the nest every time you see her that may help, but then again it may not.

I have a little silkie hen that has been sitting on eggs for 19 days and now a bossy Wyandotte has kicked her out and stollen the eggs. Poor little thing doesn't know what to do with herself.
