Silkie thread!

400

Our little buddy Ollie... 25 weeks now, we spent all summer thinking we had a boy...but hmmmmm. ;)

I have had silkies for almost three years. I keep having red leakage show up. When I first started I had a white roo and blue and black hens. Is the red from the wild card in the white? Do all of my offspring now carry this? The pic below is of a four month old roo that I thought was going to be really pretty, but I noticed a couple of days ago he is starting to have red flecks of color all over the place. Most all offspring are coming out splash and blue/grey. I guess my question is if I do not want red do I need to start all over? Or can this be by-passed by same color breeding?

I had a partridge hen that threw all kinds of crazy colors and sold her and all her babies. I just ended back up with her and she is a great little layer. Not sure what to do. I know that is kind of a subjective question, but I thought I would see what others think. Thanks for any input.

I have some chicks that started out buff with a black spot on their head and now their feathers are tipped with black speckles so does that mean I get some gorgeous partridges?

Here is our chick :) isn't he/she cute? I love silkie chicks, they're just the cutest, and they stay cute for such a super long time... hehehehhe. I'm assuming it is a blue. blue mom and blue dad. Although, I've never seen a black chick before, so I have no idea what those look like, but it looks like the other blue chick I have hatched before
I think this chick should be punished for being too cute. I sentence it to excessive loving.

I have been raising my 3 or 4 week old bearded silkies with a polish and she is super protective (she is 8 weeks). I think she thinks she is mommy LOL. It is a good thing -I think-and I am so proud of her. Here they are outside

Oh that's awesome! So would you say your polish is friendly to you also? I've been wanting one for a while and I think the color schemes they come in are to die for! Yours is absolutely gorgeous!!

he is not with hen yet I just showed u how big he is compared to her.

he may be mixed but I don't care he is super sweet.

I checked his feathers because he was caged with another male who they fought constantly so a lot of his feathers were missing. I saw that new feathers were coming in in which was a lot. So maybe he will fill out because all the spots with feathers coming in are a lot of feathers.

I just had to get him outta that situation.

when I did have him with hen to show size he didn't even attempt to mate. He also hasn't crowed yet..idk

in case he had scaly leg mites I cleaned his legs and put dipped in oil. Going to get some spray stuff from farm store soon.

he is inside most of time

Yes! I have 5 other birds and she is the ONLY one that will willingly let me pick her up and she just loves to be pet!!!! She freaks if any of the other birds go near 'her' chicks but she is calmer with me. HOWEVER- I have another polish-silver laced-that everyone says is probably a rooster and he is not mean at all but he does not want to be touched and he is a fast little S@#T! LOL
