he is not with hen yet I just showed u how big he is compared to her.

he may be mixed but I don't care he is super sweet.

I checked his feathers because he was caged with another male who they fought constantly so a lot of his feathers were missing. I saw that new feathers were coming in in which was a lot. So maybe he will fill out because all the spots with feathers coming in are a lot of feathers.

I just had to get him outta that situation.

when I did have him with hen to show size he didn't even attempt to mate. He also hasn't crowed yet..idk

in case he had scaly leg mites I cleaned his legs and put dipped in oil. Going to get some spray stuff from farm store soon.

he is inside most of time

His legs look clean, no mites here. The second to last pic he looks like an ostrich haha! He's cute, I hope he feathers out.

i was recommended to use poly vi sol on my hen with the bad foot/leg... I have a Durvet brand vitamins and electrolytes powder I can mix with water, would that work just as good? Or do I need to get the poly vi sol?

Looking through the list of ingredients for both , they are much the same. Polyvisol is easier to get your hands on and easier to administer. The durvet being water soluable is easy to administer to relatively healthy birds, but sick birds usually stop drinking. So long as your chick is drinking then the durvet will be just fine.

They just said a breeder. They had other silkies too but he was in pen with a duck since he didn't like the two oher roosters.

Well guess we'll have to see! He is just like my boy Jack Frost, they will need to go through a good molt to be back to their best quality. He was from a bad situation as well. He looks a lot better than he did but his feathers won't look right until he molts them.

I have had silkies for almost three years. I keep having red leakage show up. When I first started I had a white roo and blue and black hens. Is the red from the wild card in the white? Do all of my offspring now carry this? The pic below is of a four month old roo that I thought was going to be really pretty, but I noticed a couple of days ago he is starting to have red flecks of color all over the place. Most all offspring are coming out splash and blue/grey. I guess my question is if I do not want red do I need to start all over? Or can this be by-passed by same color breeding?

I had a partridge hen that threw all kinds of crazy colors and sold her and all her babies. I just ended back up with her and she is a great little layer. Not sure what to do. I know that is kind of a subjective question, but I thought I would see what others think. Thanks for any input.

It could either be gold leakage or autosomal red. Yes, it could come from the white, but it also could come from the black or blue. Breeding to a white may remove melanizers that keep t from showing on your hens,or it could be brought in from the boy.

So I have two eggs I can't see anything on yet, one of them is a darker shell, I plan to recheck them in a day or two and see if there is any change.

One egg that looks like it has a blood ring. :(

One egg that has a dark blob in it, and I can't see anything else.

How long is it okay to leave these iffies in the incubator for before I should pitch them? This is my first hatch, and I'd hate to have pitched them due to inexperience and lose out on chicks. :(

What do you guys think about the one with the dark blob? I know blood rings are usually bad/dead, but I want to recheck it in a few days to be sure, as I'm only on day 6, and want to be positive that it IS a blood ring, and not veins forming in some odd way.
