Silkie thread!

Hey guys I asked the chicken doc and he wasn't so sure about my roo Ichabod.

I'm worried if its canker or pox he is screwed. I love him already and he is so sweet. He eats great I don't really see him drink but he may when I'm not looking.

the sore in his mouth is part of the beak and he doesn't like me touching it. Then I heard either canker or pox is one of the is caused by stagnant dirt water. The place he was at the drinking water was out of a kiddy pool the water was green. I'm freaking out because mu dad put my too out with my silkie hen this morning around 6 and I just now got home. He forgot what I told him to not let him with her.

omg I'm freaking out

I have had a egg not move at all in the water test, thought for sure it was dead put it back anyway and it hatched a couple days later!
Could it have been delayed? It won't have a good heartbeat until the 18th day. Earlier than that it is very difficult to see the movement - you have to leave it in a long time... much longer than is comfortable for me.

I do not know anything about either problem, and I hope it is no more serious than a canker.

For me quarantine is in a dog crate in a different area than any other bird has ever been - and strict procedures are followed. I feed my birds first and then the newcomers. Transfer is only from my birds to the newcomer - never the other way around. I do not handle the newcomers if I am going to handle my birds later. If the newcomers get sick I can treat them away from the rest, all birds carry something they have gotten acclimated to, so the newcomers have a chance to get acclimated before they go out with the rest. If it something serious they will be removed. Quarantine is for 30 days, or more if the bird gets sick. I also do not wear the same clothes or shoes to go where there is going to be other chickens that I wear when I am at home around my birds. Some diseases pass through stuff you can track home - too many of them.

Hopefully everything comes out well - but next time you may want to follow these suggestions, I found they do work. The quarantine area is also more than 100 feet away from any of my birds - there are some diseases that travel on the wind.

I'm getting ready to winterize, we're starting to get high 30's some nights here.... Should I change to a different feed for winter? My guys are only about 4 months old and still on chick feed.

I had him quarantined but dad didn't know. He was away from her. He was inside my house in dog crate. He prefers inside than out.
Ah, so it was just a miss-understanding. Well, she's exposed now if he has anything, so just keep an eye on the both of them and hope for the best! You could try the oxine on his bump, perhaps that would help it.

I have a hen with a lump in her comb, been that way since she was tiny - she is supposed to have a pea comb but its one big pea in the middle. It looks like she got bit or poked as a chick and it scarred over and didn't heal right. For awhile I thought she was a rooster because her comb was red at the same time as the boys, but she is laying eggs now..

Spray Oxine (AH)in a fine mist sprayer over his head about 4 to 5 sprays three times a day. If its fungal that should clear it up. The runny nose part makes me worry for you. If your dealing with a respiratory disease his showing days are over. Very sorry your dealing with this.

Well I mean it just popped up out of no where.

I had this same thing happen a couple of weeks ago...............
Had been gone all day and temp was 110 when I returned.
Thought they were toast..floated twice..........one moved.....
Floated again day 23..................nothing...had two hatch.one day24, one day 25.........
and they are healthy. Also, the one that did move, did not hatch................

If its dry pox it will just run its course and he will be fine, pox is spread by misquotes. Wet pox is worse. Do a search on BYC on it and see if that's what it looks like to you.
