Silkie thread!

Momma was stir crazy, so we went outside for about 5 minutes. Hopefully I didn't give the kids a chill. It wasn't too bad out today.

I went out to give Snow a drink and make sure the hatch was going, and this little head popped out. Something its screwy with my genetics lol. I don't care, its adorable!
Darling! I love the picture of the chick under momma!! Partridge chicks are SO cute!!

oh goodness, as soon as I saw the first picture, I saw that one and said, it looks like a rooster! even its face looks roostery!

So since this is my first partridge chick, can anyone tell me based on birth markings, what shade of partridge a bird will be? Meaning if it is very lightly marked will it be light partridge? Or like mine in the above picture, being dark marked, a darker adult bird? Or does it not make a difference.

That is a good idea to keep track of the colors to see how they turn out as adults! I better get some tiny zip ties :) Your discription of the body shape is better. I see it now! OK, now you need to explain Isabella . . Here are some pictures I just took of the chicks. I put them in a box lid and they kept jumping out and running away! So I ended up putting them in a basket, then back in the brooder for some shots. Look at the two on the left standing tall with the big vaulted skulls in the first picture. Those have got to be roosters!
Oh geez, they are the cutest!

Oh my - cuteness OVERLOAD!!!!

You called it Isabel - I call it Isabella (prettier sounding, Italian, no?). Just Partridge with Lavender... I hope!

Yes, I think you may be right - standing tall and at attention - the boys look out...

That one dark Partridge chick looks interesting - it came out of a Porcelain marked egg? Did you make notes of which pen?

I used small strips of colored vet wrap their first two weeks, that way it would stretch as their legs grew. I have two different colors - but you may need more colors. I was worried about getting the zip ties too loose and falling off - or too tight and hurting the growing legs.
There are three darker chicks that came out of the porcelain marked eggs. I did not keep track of which pens they came out of. I "think" (darn the egg shells went out with the garbage yesterday) they were marked porc1, porc 2 and por 3. The 3 darker porcelain chicks have faint chipmunk stripes. One of the porcelain chicks is almost completely lavender, It should be interesting to see how that ones color turns out!

I had forgotten about the vet wrap! That is a much safer way to mark them! I will get the lightest color I can find and write numbers on it so I don't have to use a bunch of colors. Thanks for reminding me!

I have a feeling, after hatching out many roosters, that at least half of these guys are boys! You can just see it in their stance, attitude and the expression in their eyes

I love the roosters best, so I ALWAYS pick them as my favorite chicks!

I'm new to roosters (this summer) and there and things I never paided much att. to so bear w/ me. Oh HI! I'm new to this thread. I have silkies, frizzles and I got stuck w/ some slickes.
What are porcelain eggs? where do you get colored vet wrap? Our TSC doesn't carry anything like that. And is there a place w/ chart's that I can download so I can be ready for my spring fling! Thanks for all your help and it will be greatly appreciated!

I am new to this thread too. Just hatched my first Silkies

I am hooked!

Porcelain eggs, as in eggs from porcelain Silkies. I hatched porcelain, white, blue and lavender chicks from Catdance Silkies. I especially love the color porcelain! I have porcelain d'Anvers also.

TSC should have vet wrap in the horse section. Our local feed stores carries it also.

What are Slickes?
