Silkie thread!

So since this is my first partridge chick, can anyone tell me based on birth markings, what shade of partridge a bird will be? Meaning if it is very lightly marked will it be light partridge? Or like mine in the above picture, being dark marked, a darker adult bird? Or does it not make a difference.

Looks a lot like mine. I love partridge

I don't know the genetics for Porcelain very well - I am TRYING to stick with Partridge and that is tough enough.

I believe Isabell is another name they tried using for the Porcelain - but it wasn't close to correct genetics either. I think I remember Porcelain needs Mottled, Isabella needs the Pattern gene? Somebody mentioned it could be Lavender over Partridge - I think that would be BEAUTIFUL. However, we can't see the patterning very well in the Silkied feathers, so we have no clue when we get close to correct genetics. Putting Lavender over what I have now will give a washed out bird - I need to find Mahogany...

I suspect some Porcelain is closer to Isabella genetically - but over our current Partridge Silkies instead of the darker Partridge. Its so hard to tell what you actually have...

Its like throwing darts at a dart board, blindfolded. With practice I can imagine you can get good at determining what genetics you need to get the color correct when you can't see what it actually is. I don't have any practice.. yet.

Is Izzy Isabell? She's from a porcelain pen. Lavender in the crest and tail when she's wet. (She's the one in front)

Had to jump in, I just hatched 14 catdance babies 7 porcelain, 2 Lav, 2 partridge a buff and a couple splash. I still have a some of her eggs under a broody. They are sooooo cute! Porcelain is my favorite I included a couple pics of my 1 year old old porcelain hen from

Catdance. I love how the porcelain all look different.

I am hooked!

Porcelain eggs, as in eggs from porcelain Silkies. I hatched porcelain, white, blue and lavender chicks from Catdance Silkies. I especially love the color porcelain! I have porcelain d'Anvers also.

TSC should have vet wrap in the horse section. Our local feed stores carries it also.

What are Slickes?
I will go to your profile and have a look see ;-)
Thanks, I'll check there!
Slickles, sorry, I had spelled it wrong) are what I posted. Some like them cuz the don't get wet and can take the cold. I personally have wyandottes and have silkies so I could of made them myself it I wanted something that looked like that. Or hatched them by mistake lol
I've read that name a few time Cat... I want to look into her also!
Thanks for the info :p
