Well they aren't show quality, they are pet quality, but they are adorable =D They are probably from a hatchery, but that just means they aren't as fluffy and don't follow the "standard of perfection" for silkie. They will however make great, friendly pets and you will be bit by the silkie but very soon
Quote: tanks!! i am already fond of te silkie butt!!
Welcome back, sorry to hear about your Sammie .I have not been on BYC forum for a while and finally found my way back and found this thread! I was excited because I simply love my silkies!! I have 8 right now but always want more!! I lost my wonderful roo Sammie last year and since then have not found a Roo that I want...I really would like a splash roo but have not found just the right one.My Annabelle...she is the queen of hatching out eggs..I have gotten 5 chicks from her! She will go broody once every few weeks!

Ella on her nest keeping eggs from Professor Fluffles warm, right next to the towel she usually sleeps on with Thunderhead. I had to move her nest over a bit just in case she decided to get all nervous, but she didn't. He slept roosting on the side of her nest the first couple of nights, but doesn't anymore. He's kind of lost without her by his side, but every day when she leaves the nest to do her stuff, she nuzzles him with her head like she always does when not broody and eats off any food she finds on him (tube feeding can get messy at times).
I candled the eggs last night because yesterday I found one to be cold to the touch when I had to clean some poop out of the nest after Thunderhead made a visit. Both eggs have little embryos bouncing around in them. I was surprised to see them moving since they're only 9-10 days old. She's very dedicated, and I do have to kick her off the nest once a day to eat and drink. She's looking a bit ragged because her wing feathers are breaking off. I know they lose condition, but should I be doing anything for her?
I wish I knew who mated with Fluffles. I've never seen any of the males show her any attention. I haven't seen four of the roosters show any hen any attention and three others seem to have favorite hens. I'm guessing the father's either the blue cochin rooster, the black silkie or the splash silkie since they're the ones out there constantly trying to mate with everything that moves, including the rumpless silkie who's mostly likely male.I'm hoping she bred with the splash, black or one of the blues since she's blue. We're going to get interesting results if she mated with the buff.![]()
