New babies. They hatched Sunday. It's amazing that the ones that are so smutty feather out completely white. The have the same dad but are from two different hens.

I had Sheldon Chicken Cooper. The reason being: I had to treat Sheldon with Selenium for wry neck
Sheldon's (Big Bang Theory) favorite mineral (?) is Selenium. Sheldon's on "Big Bang Theory)
last name is "Cooper". Therefore, his name was Sheldon Chicken Cooper" Whew!

When I picked up the prescription of Nystatin for a splash Ameraucana cockerel whose crop would not empty, they drug store called him "Chicken Jeanpierre." Little did they know, my son had named him "Deep Throat" due to the recurring crop issues. (All better after a course of prescription anti fungal meds.) My son named his friend, the dark blue Ameraucana behind him "The Dark Knight." The SIlkies, as a group he refers to as "The Ducks." Sadly, all his stupid names have stuck. Oh, he doesn't have the excuse of being a little kid; no, no, no, he's 21.

Deep Throat named because of crop issues.

The Dark Knight, because he just floats around the yard being regal and superior. That is until the splash explained the real order of things, Deep Throat #1 cockerel, The Dark Knight, #2, and it didn't matter that the splash was weak and sick after dealing with a crop issue for a month.

I think "she" is a pretty little feather duster! I'm sending little pullet dust to you.

Thank you. My imagination is limited, so I go with what I know. lol
I took some 3 week old pics of Sheldon. He isn't a fluffy as the others were at 3 weeks. I'm sure he will get there. I get so happy when he responds to my voice when I go to the brooder. Maybe it was from helping him hatch.
I have a heck of a time with names, too. I've had racehorses for years, so getting a good name is important. I HATE some of the stupid names some people name them, the Boozing-Blonde-sexual-reference type names.

My husband names all my racehorses--he tries to combine the pedigree with a pun so I often end up with great names. I wanted to name one horse Algorithm since the founder of that branch of mathematics was a Persian (Iranian) mathematician named Al Kwarizmi, that was translated to Algorithm. Sire was Trajectory. Dam was Flying Tabriz whose sire was Turkoman, which is a tribe in Central Asia (including Iran). Tabriz is a famous carpet-making city in Iran. When I named Tabriz, the name was not available, so she became Flying Tabriz, as in a flying magic carpet. Since I couldn't get Algorithm (not available), we named him another mathematical name, Parabola. His full sister (same sire and dam) was born a year later on the same day as Parabola. Naturally she was named Hyperbola, which is a mathematical equation that maps as a mirror image of a parabola around a line.

Here's Tumor Head named by my supposedly adult son.

What color is he? He was bought from MacMurray Hatchery as a Buff purebred Silkie. He always had some white/cream on his back and chest. I think the last picture might show how light it is. Yes, I know--he is pretty hideous.

He and Mini Testicle Face survived a Dachshund attack with some pretty serious injuries so he was spared being culled to the freezer with the other Silkie cockerels. My son knows which buttons to push and keeps reminding me that he and Testicle Face are survivors which somehow endowes them with mystical qualities that make it impossible for anyone to kill them. Testicle Face, my all time favorite chicken, succumbed to his injuries. A fourth Silkie cockerel was really badly injured so without any guilt whatsoever I managed to process my first chicken ever. The dog somehow managed to avoid a one-way trip to the vet's.

My little head trauma case is doing a lot better, up to 1.5 lb (600+ grams) and I think that is a good weight considering the normal size for adult silkies is 2 lbs and my 2 year old laying silkies was 700+ grams.

She STILL isn't eating on her own though, but I have her on a schedule and I know that if I get 6-8 syringes of food in her that she gains/maintains weight. Time will tell if she decides to eat on her own, but yesterday I couldn't feed her until 2pm and she still hadn't tried. Friday night she pecked at food but didn't eat it. She is starting to rake her beak, so that's something :)
