Silkie thread!

Hi,
One of my beloved 9 week old chicks just died (RIP Maybe
hit.gif
) and i do not know what the cause was. I started off with three and now have

two. they are living in a box in our kitchen with a feeder full of medicated chick feed and clean water (in a feeder also) they have bedding

(wood shavings) and the box is big enough to run around in. what could i change so the others don't die? should i let them outside for part of

the day?

ANY help would be very appreciated

thank you,
Chloe

Do you have a light on them? They need to stay warm.

Can anyone tell me if my 8 week old Silkies' wing feathers are "normal". They are looking kind of ragged and I didn't know if that is normal or a clue that they are lacking in something(like protein maybe) The Black one seems to have the most ragged look to them.

Black

Partridge?
I am also worried that I found a couple of wing feathers in their box when I was putting them to bed tonight...Is this normal?

This is my first set of Silkies and I want to make sure they are getting everything they need

they are right next to a heater and our house is constantly heated in between 72 and 76 degrees ferenheit
is that warm enough?

No they need to be at 98 degrees the first two weeks and then decrease 5 degrees every week after. Get a lamp on them ASAP.

***Sorry I just went back to see their age. At 9 weeks they should be fine with out a light.***

Yup that's normal, the more shredded the better =) The wing feathers are fine too,it's normal they may have just been pulled out.

I have a white silkie hen not even a year old yet born this past spring that went broody 3 days ago and it's cold and snowy here in Ohio so I can't wait to see how her first clutch goes and my first winter broody
