I started giving her polyvisol that whole day and then I went out that night to get vit E & selenium and by the time I got back she'd already died It's been an emotional week with these guys. Now my project is trying to get my blue chick walking again. She was walking perfectly and is now acting crippled. I made her some booties, and crossing my fingers she'll start using them. She still prefers to lay down and sleep alot. I've been giving her polyvisol to and putting Vit-al in everyones water.

Omg put 3 roos together.. Causes craziness. I have seen some people put new roos together and they duke it out. I was supervising. I introduced sialas and Ichabod. There was a scuffle but that's it. Silas and roman were going at it. Silas was bit bloody. I saw Ichabod step in a few times and they stop for a while. Now there warn out and still together. Cleaned up Silas. Everything's good so far. When roman and Silas were duking it out. Ichabod would go after roman. Then Silas went after roman again. Ichabod would also just watch. Weird. Roman is the stroger between Silas and roman. Roman badly had a scratch on him. While Silas got it good. Could it just of bee a dominance thing.

I did notice too Romans by himself. Tye other four are on the other side of the pen.. 10x9ft foot pen.

I had roman before Silas and Ichabod likes Silas better. Its like poor roman is an outcast. Of course he is since he was always in pen by himself who knows... I'll keep an eye on them.

I was hoping Ichabod to be alpha. Silas beta. And I guess roman omega.. I guess I got that lol

I think you shouldn't blame yourself, shipped eggs are 50/50 sometimes better, most times worse.  Silkie eggs I have heard are hard to hatch, though I don't know exactly why I am sure someone here does.  Sorry for your frustration!

I too have heard that they can be difficult to hatch and I am hoping that some of the silkie vets with chime in with some tricks of the trade. Thanks for your words of encouragement.

I hatched silkies as my first hatch. 8 of 11 hatched.
The only thing I would do differently is monitor the air cells day 16, 17 and when I see the drastic dip, add humidity immediately. I saw the dip on day 17 last time, but followed instructions for "lockdown" on day 18, and it killed 3 of my early developers.

I have a 10 week old silkie who will be walking then for no reason do a wild head Bob like a mad crack head then a few seconds later be perfectly fine she does this maybe 3 times a day I've not seen this in the other 4 I have should I be concerned or is this just her ghetto side showing

When we first got our silkies last year we had a grown roo- Buster and was unsure of the other 4- after the first few weeks of keeping the chicks and Buster separated we decided to put them all together- Buster was such a good caretaker and protector...never hurt any of them- flash forward a few months- ours chicks become 3 roos and a hen --- everything was ok until the chicks are almost a year old- the white roo seemed to be the head honcho and the two partridge roos just followed suit- all 3 were ganging up on Buster and terrorizing him. We also got two more silkie hens and a polish hen hoping it would calm things down. Still total chaos with Buster hiding and running from the young roos daily- never actually saw blood or actual damage to Buster, but he was almost always on the run or hiding.... About three weeks ago we were able to remove the white roo and send him home with a friend....It is amazing that things have calmed down so much and everyone is getting along so well. My blue hen is setting on 8 eggs now and hopefully next week we will have a bunch of lil chicks running around again.

Are her eyes covered by fluff ? I have one that freaks out when she realizes she is about to come in contact with my leg. You might also research ' star gazing '.

Is it normal for the silkie chicks to have one eye open an one shut? they are only a day old hatched yesterday these are my first silkie baby's

No it's not normal, if there are no other symptoms put a little eye ointment or baby oil on you fingers and gently open the lid.

nope ryes are not covered and perfectly healthy other than her head Bob and again its only 3 times a day she will start bobbing her head side to side and up and down and happens mostly if I give them a treat and she gets excited if she's in middle of one of her bobs and I reach for her she snaps right out of it
