Lol, my daughter if flying to Paris this week as part of a choir that will perform at the dawn service on Anzac Day at Le Somme . Blackbird is part of their repitoir
When she gets back I'll get her to sing to my chooks. It will be a captive audience .

I WISH mine like scrambled! It would be so much easier. That's why I invested in a little Egg Genie to hard-boil eggs and I just keep a half dozen or so on hand either for ourselves or to give as treats to the girls once in a while. I too don't like giving the shape of an egg (or even raw egg to give them a taste for it) so I halve it sideways instead of lengthwise and hold it in my hand and they eat it so fast they don't even notice it had a shape! Of course I'm talking only 4 hens and not a 50-bird flock!

I'm going to scramble 2 x dozen eggs and mix through 6 x cups of cooked rice for mine today. I've been weighed down with the flu and my husband only feeds them chook food. BORING. They will be glad to see the ' crazy food lady '.

We are thoroughly enjoying reading everyone's posts about their silkie experiences & decided that it is about time that we introduce ourselves! No one warned how addicting chickens were! And so it begins!!!

Hello, I am new to owning a silkie hen and I am already addicted I seriously bought her just yesterday and I traveled a little over a hour to pick her up and she rode home on my lap and the LOVE began

I have other chickens that are new to me as well. I have had them for only about 2 weeks now. I have 3 barred rocks, 2 buffs, 2 cochin bantams, and yesterday when I picked up my silkie hen I also got a SIZZLE! (mix of a silkie and a frizzle) not sure right now if it is a hen or a rooster. Very beautiful bird though. I have no pictures yet but I will post some soon. I"m already trying to talk the hubby into letting me get a couple more silkies!!! LOL (just darling) I saw your post so I thought I would cay congrats on your new birds. They are fun for sure. I have 4 Rouen ducks, 3 calls, and 1 Welsh Harlequin. Love them all to pieces! ENJOY and congrats. -April

We have 2 Silkie hens, one Buff Leghorn, and one APA Ameraucana. We used to have a Cuckoo Marans and a White Leghorn but those LF became bullies and re-homed to an egg-seller friend. They were great as rescued pullets but eventually as they matured got rough with the Silkies so re-homed them. The current Buff Leghorn is calmer than the White Leghorn and the Ameraucana is not interested in flock politics so the Silkies "rule the roost".

I'm not sure if anyone else has done this, but we raised our chicks with 24-7 access to music. There is a stereo in the room the brooder is in and they got accustomed to classical mostly, but always something relaxing and soothing. The first time I played guitar for them was fun and I serenaded them with "Blackbird" Since they've moved outside it seemed something was missing until I dragged a small radio out this evening and it immediately got an audience. The radio is the black object up near the handle of the rake. I let them listen for a couple hours until the sun went down and one by one I collected up a pile of Silkies and deposited them in their new home where they once again became a pile. lol Anyone else expose their chickens to music??? [/quote. I was just thinking about doing it with the eggs I'm about to incubate. Since you reminded me, I'm going to do it. it worked well with my children. my 9 year old loves to listen to music before going to bed. my 1 yr old collapses in my arms as soon as the music starts. excited to see if it makes a difference. my first time with shipped eggs, so we will see

Yes exciting times . They have learnt the French national anthem and I've been told that nothing excites the French more than foreigners singing their anthem in French.
