Silkie thread!

I would suggest blocking off the opening with chicken wire so the babies and her will be safe from the rest of the flock. Can you access the box from the outdoors if so this idea will work. You will just have to give her water and food through the nesting box door. Or you could put hinges on the inside screen covering the nesting box and then when the other birds are outside you could open the screen and they could walk in the rest of the coop for some space:)

I can access it from outside. Thats a good idea. It's screwed down right now. I need to put another latch on the box lid. We were worried about raccoons prying up the lid with only one latch so we just gather eggs from inside.

The
the lady at TSC thought they were a standard chicken and didnt charge me bantam prices, sadly she was clueless, realized i had a real treasure when i got home.
a bantam are more expensive? I never even looked at the price for the bantam bin since to me straight run means I'm going to have a house full of roosters.

I got my white silkies at TSC too. They were in the 'assorted, straight run, bantam' bucket. When I saw they had black legs I stood and watched them trying to get a look at the count of toes. After they boxed them (i got in trouble for opening the box to get one out to look at it

. Said something about being against VA law) anyway they did have 5 toes and the skin was black. I told the guys they had a bucket full of Silkies. They said they were told they were just bantams. I just looked back at my photo's of them and they did have feathers/fuzz on their legs at 3 days old.

subhanalah Made me feel wonderful tonite! She told me my eggs I shipped her were 100% fertile and all developed. I couldn't be happier with my roo and his girls. Thanks!!
