I have a couple of color questions...

I was told this little one is a lavender, but I know they're not very common. At this age (4-5 days) how can you tell if (s)he's a lavender or a splash?

And this little one has a green beak and feet. What is that about? The only green feet I've ever seen were on an EE.

So I want to make sure I read this right, would this mean the first one is a boy and the rest appear female? I hope so! I will have to start trying this on mine, I had never seen this before, thanks!

I think she posted these pictures for spongegirl to tell her. It's her who says this works. I am curious myself if this method indeed works

Hopefully she will get on and let us know, I see a big gap on the first one like she said for boys....do keep us posted on what they turn out to be! I would LOVE to have a better way to sex them, I get it wrong with the Showgirl Silkies all the time.

Hey Lisa! I posted these for spongegirl. I've never heard of this before so I'm super curious! All I've ever heard is that silkies and showgirls are next to impossible to tell until they tell you themselves! I'm seeing the same thing you are. The gap is pretty obvious on the first one. It will be fun to see how accurate she is!

For SOME breeds this works. SIlkies are not one of those breeds. It is a sex-linked trait, and the gene has to be bred in.

Ive heard this to but some still claim it works so I guess we're all curious if it actually does. I personally like to focus on the comb around 3 weeks and compare sizes, and even the weight and overall size of the chick. Thats how I am guessing 2 of mine might be roos.

I wouldn't worry about the green , it will darken over the next week or so.

another of my chicks has hatched...two out of 8..one hatched on day 21 and one on day 23. How much more time must I give them to hatch?

Depends whether or not they were all set at the same time, that being said, I've had a hatch spread over 5 days. Watch that momma has food and a shallow water dish nearby and be ready to pop the remaining eggs ( if she decides to abandon them ) under another broody or into an incubator .
