Silkie thread!

For SOME breeds this works. SIlkies are not one of those breeds. It is a sex-linked trait, and the gene has to be bred in.
That's what I've always thought. But it will be fun to see what happens. Like guessing what an expectant mother may be having . Ring on string...carrying high or low... :).

I have six that are 3 weeks old and I can clearly tel one is a cockerel. Its comb has started growing.

I think the combs typically do get bigger faster on the boys, However, I had a trio of chicks last December, and I sold the one with the comb getting bigger at 3-4 weeks (a LOT bigger!) and the two that I kept ended up boys, and the one sold ended up a girl. So I am skeptical now. That hen turned out gorgeous, I was so mad at myself for giving her up. It was a beautiful bearded bowtied paint showgirl.

Oh no!! Well geeze in that case I think i'll be keeping all my babies till one of them crows lol. I was getting a pretty good feeling about these ones being boys because of their weight and bigger combs but if there's even a chance they could be female then I guess i'll be keeping them lol. One of the questionable ones is my only splash so I really want to keep it if it ends up a hen :)
