Silkie thread!

FANCYCHOOKLADY: I have silkies (11) plus 4 barred rock hens & one easter egger in a 30x40 horse barn converted into a chicken coop. In the spring, summer & fall they all free range together during the day & at night they return to their respective 1/2 of the barn they are penned in the winter. I will let them all share the whole barn on rainy days as my silkie rooster is boss & he goes after the big gals if they pick on his silkie girls! If it weren't for him, I would have to separate them more as they tend to be a bit mean.

Roosters often have to keep the peace. Everyone's flock has different dynamics. In mine the Silkie hens are held in high regard as most of my LF have been reared by silkies.

how cute is this. Two of our silkie hens have laid together in the same box, and take shifts with the eggs. When one of the hens get up off the eggs to eat and drink, the other hen would move the eggs to under herself and sit on them for her. When the hen comes back to sit on the eggs she would get them back from under the other hen. Today is day 18 and there are about 9 eggs under them all-together

when ever you post pictures of your baby chicks they are always with a broody hen, just wondering if you ever use a incubator??

Also what color is this chickie

It's definitely splash. Look at the very light blue (lavender looking) body and then the darker but still light colored wings. Its one of my favorite colors so I know it very well :) I just watched one of mine from a day old turn into a splash and it started out almost white with a very pale tint of blue and as soon as the feathers come in on the wings you see it get darker (light blue) just like your picture, and within another week you'll see splashes of darker colors on several wing feathers/tail feathers and it'll get more and more splashy as it grows, you'll see ;)

when are your next eggs, if you have at the moment, due to hatch?

I have a Silkie sitting on eggs , but she's only 9-10 days in. I have a week old splash Wyandotte and 13 x 3 week old silver laced Wyandotte and 4 x 6 week old coronation Sussex. I will worm everyone next week then after 10 days start collecting Wyandotte eggs for setting. All of the chicks I have on the ground are spoken for.
