Silkie thread!

You know some cultures consider black meat Silkies a medicinal delicacy to eat if you re-home them free? Or are you ok with that? Just the way it is - sighl

Better to give the roos as pets to kids you know because the Silkie boys are usually very sweet unlike pullets that can get hormonal. Plus it's better for kids handling and holding roos rather than mishandling laying hens. Here's hoping you find them all homes.

It's too bad it is risky business trying to sex day-old bantams. This is why I wait until the pullets are old enough to identify before purchasing. Of course there are the $25 DNA lab tests that can ID the sex of a Silkie chick but it's still at least a 4-week wait to get results. AmberWavesSilkies offers the test to ID their Silkies at $25 each bird and will hold the Silkie for you until the results are back if you want a definite pullet when purchasing from them. They are a high quality business and their Silkies are not cheap feed store pets.
There's a woman in the neighborhood that gives all her extra Roos to a guy that has lions! I'll say no more on the subject!

Then there's the ppl that like having just Roos in their yards for bug eaters and alarm sounders! It's a case of look around and research. Call the local 4-H group too! They might be able to help you out!

Didn't know there was the thing of having them tested on their sex? Interesting!

I have my hatchery man close to us where I go in and pick out the baby(s) I want. I always do the ankle feather and butt check before choosing them though!

Hubby was looking over my shoulder while I was viewing BYC's! He asked me to send him the link. He wants to LURK around on here from time to time! LOL Who knows? He might get the bug to get more babies!

He'll need something to keep him occupied from time while he's laid up from the surgery he's getting this Tuesday. Hand surgery!

Toss in the egg it came out of too! She'll really think it's hers then! I always did that with my momma's! And I did it when she was off the nest - outside doing her duty! After dark is also a good time too!
Some mommas will take them right in and others won't! And trust me! They know exactly how many eggs they are supposed to have too. I've had hens look and search for a bad egg I've removed from the nest. I'd have to give her a ceramic egg to replace the one I removed to keep her happy!
We mothers!!!! like to keep our little feathered mommas happy too!

Good idea I'll put the shell under her too!

Suzierd I would put that baby under her while you can watch her to see if she will accept it. My experience has been that you will know soon if she is accepting it! Some will & some won't. I have a mama who is raising one of her own & two i purchased. I tried to give a hen one of the ones I purchased because she had sat on eggs that didn't hatch ( I had just removed them from her nest). She refused the day old baby so I gave i to my other hen who took it readily! I wish you luck!

Thanks everyone, I think this is probably the cutest batch of chicks I've ever had!

TC, she's a (not so great) Sizzle from my project (which is a normal feathered frizzle bred to the Silkie standard, still very much a work in progress for me). She might not be the prettiest example, but she is the BEST mom ever!

My Wife told me yesterday that she heard four of our five Silkies crow and I said that can't be.
Well, I just let them out this morning and observed.   It's official, apparently out of a batch of five straight run Silkies, we ended up with 4 roos. :sick
Now I have three roosters to re-home and so far no takers on Craigslist even for free.
Why can't my odds be like that for the lottery?

I want 3 of them!! Too bad I live in indonesia, :( I love silkies, my silkie and polish pullets needs a roo
