I have a seven week old silver laced Wyandotte. She's been in the brooder with the silkie chicks for a while because she's too small to go into the big coop with the 11 week old laying hens with my two banty roosters. Finally yesterday I decided that I would try to put her in the big coop and see what would happen. Only to find out that one of my banty roosters didn't like her very much. There's a spot above the bottom door in my two-story coop where a small bird to get out and I didn't think that she would be able to. Let alone I find her roosting on it the other night. I went out there when I closed up the coops for the night and put her back in it, she seemed fine until the morning. The other chickens picked on her and wouldn't leave her alone throughout the whole day. She stayed in the coop until tonight I guess because a little bit ago I went and closed up the coops and she was in one of my other coop with the silkies! Has anyone had this happen? And should I let her stay in the silkie coops since that's where she feels safe?

If she is happy with the silkies I would leave her in there. If you are wanting her to be in with the others I would wait until she is the same size as the the other hens in the coop. Determine which of the hens is alpha hen remove her from the pen and pen her with the slw for a week or 2 and then reintroduce the pair to the coop together. By doing this you are changing the high racy in the pen and the once 'alpha hen ' will be too busy reaffirming her own place in the flock to be bothered with the ' newbie '.

Do you all remember me posting my golden laced smooth sizzle on here?? well I believe one of her siblings is golden laced also, just with silkie feathers. what do you all think?? this picture is when she was younger for the comparison between the two.
i doubt i ever sell her, but i might sell her eggs in the future.
Beautiful! And if you do sell eggs, I would be interested as well.
All my purebreed juveniles were shipped cross-country. One shipment was 11-12 week olds. Next shipment was 9-10 week olds. Both shipments were from VT to CA and the juvies were fine if you are getting from breeders experienced in shipping. Realize that USPS shipping costs are outrageous but it's the only way to get specialized breeds not close to you.
Where did you get them from in VT? I've been looking for young SQ silkies nearby.
