Silkie thread!

I've never seen any chocolate cochins, and for htat matter, haven't heard of anyone breeding them, either with dun or choc. On the other hand, I've been working on chocolate silkies for years.

My bad! I confused the fluffy butt Chocolate Orps for Cochins! Cochins come in so many variations I made too hasty a remembrance.

Fantastic that you are working on Chocolate Silkies - could Choc Orps be used in the cross-breeding or is that too large a breed to work with Silkies? I'm not knowledgeable about genetics but sometimes it amazes me what cross-breeds are used to get certain colors. Example: My Buff Leghorns had Buff Orp, Buff Minorca, Buff Rock, and even Phoenix in her history. Some of these mixes were evident in one bird's body type yet her sister looks very Leghorn sleek in comparison. Never know what comes out in a mix when you go for certain colors or body types. Rather than culling I asked the breeder for pet quality and got 2 Buff Legs of which one happened to turn out as a good type and would be good for breeding.

I just saw a huge coon about a hundred yards in the tall weeds standing on its back legs looking at my chickens! Yikes! I think that was the biggest one I have ever seen. And it's the middle of the day, seen it at 1:30 it must be feeding little ones. I will deffently be locking them up before I go to work. Now I'm nervous.

Wish you were closer.i lost six hens one year to a owl and coon.lock them up my daughter who lived at home at that time told me they had locked them up they lied it was a awful night.

Poor you, I lost my Rhode Island Red to a fox. There's like 2 foxes and a bunch of baby's where I live I'm really freaked out.

Hello everyone! I'm new to silkies & crazy over them !! So sweet! I have 4 8 week old silkies & am looking to add some more!. The ones I've found nearby are only few days old .Can they go in w/ the others during the day (in the run)? Guessing they still need light at night as temps at night are around 70?? We raised our red sex links from teeny chicks would silkies be similar or need diff attn...any advice is greatly appreciated .
Silkies need the same care as any chick. I have my 1 silkie with 7 other standard sized chicks.

400

Got these babies from @Papa Brooder. I believe they are BBS and some are cuckoo, but 9 don't see any head spots.
There are six total, the four in the foreground and two between the LF cochin two week old and leg horn mix week old. They think the two "big" chick's are mom lol.
These guys have the darkest beaks I've ever seen on a silkier in person (maybe even in pictures too)

Highly recommend @Papa Brooder for your silkie needs!

That's terrible! I would be so mad at them. They could have at least told you they didn't do it so you could call someone else to do it. Very sorry for you and the poor peeps.
It sounds like your about three hours from me.
