Silkie thread!

Just wanted to get some options on this..
I am going to be making a larger pen extension area outside of the chickens run for when the weather is nice to give them even more room and the area they will be on is hard dirt with some dead weeds & small rocks (No grass). They will have to be confined to this area, since I cannot let them out in the yard anymore due to my dog eating their poop and getting sick Ughh. I was thinking of either leaving it as it is, or putting a couple wheel barrows of dried out horse manure down on it to soften it up, and give them something to dig in, and do whatever they do. But not sure if the dried out manure is going to be too I dunno dirty, or carry parasites that they shouldnt have or something? Should I put some down, or just leave it as is with the hard dirt ground?

Research the "deep litter method" I believe that is what you will be looking to do in there.

I put bales of hay , autumn leaves and horse manure in my day pens. They scratch it round till you can't even see it anymore. Great little excavators.

I love this time of year! It is so much fun to see all of your adorable baby pictures! I have one to add. Notice our cat in the screen porch behind the chick. I just snapped a quick picture & didn't notice the cat till I enlarged the picture on my computer!:gig
That is so cool the cat and chick are the same color :D
