Silkie thread!

I have 1 1/2 week old silkie who is the only hatch out of 6. She chirped so loudly because she was lonely. I rigged a cage inside the brooder of my 5 week old chicks. She has a heat lamp, food and water. She can see and hear the older chicks but they can't pick on her. Sometimes they will lay right next to her cage but she wants to be right on top of them. I can't wait till she's big enough to let them be together. Do you think she's a black with silver leakage?

I have introduced younger chicks with older with success in the past. Just pop one in with her for a day or so then try introducing them together. Supervise them of course.

Hi there Tassie,

I live in Bathurst NSW and am new to breeding my Silkie Kids! Have 9 hens and 2 beautiful roosters. I have just recently purchased the big harlequin roo and look forward to getting some variety of colours. My other roo is a beautiful black with a silver ruff and I have lots of young silver and charcoal hens to sell. Just wondering if you have any idea how much to ask for them? They are pets, and most have just started laying but I have too many now for my chicken runs. Have a young man who works in my local produce store who wants to buy them but I have no idea what to ask???

Thanks for your time and I'm sure your probably feeling the chill like us?? -6.5 yesterday morning....burst water pipes and all!!!

Take care,
Debra.:)

Hiya Debra.
The weather here has been fairly mild , a few 0 mornings but mild days. We have family in rylstone and dubbo and spent many days at mt panorama in my younger days.
For a point of lay pullet , depending on colour and quality I would be inclined to advertise on andy vardy's backyard poultry with at $30 ea asking price. The guy at the produce store will probably only give you 1/2 that.
Would love to see some pics. :)

Thanks for that info!
Wow, it's such a small world isn't it? I live at Locksley, just south of Bathurst, so We tend to get really cold here overnight, but the days had been beautiful up until the past week!
You sound like you have a menagerie like we do. I lived in Tassie for three years and loved every minute of it. Unfortunately my first husband didn't and we came back to the mainland, but I still miss it.
I have had the usual Isa Browns for laying and then came across a pen of silkies at a poultry auction and had to have them!!! The rest is history. But i did pick up a couple of Wyandotte/ silkie crosses that came with a beautiful big White Wyandotte roo and they produce the prettiest and most beautiful shaped hens I've seen. Gorgeous patterns and colours with fluffy bottoms and feathered feet!!! Cute as and good layers. But they are all kept separate from the silkie gentry and I know these hens are pure silkie.

I will have a look at Andy Vardys site now,

Thanks again

Debra
