I see a lot of powder blue fuzz. Either way , adorable !

I would trim the feathers of the beard and crest away from the eyes. Some out of this batch have completely obscured vision and I've had to trim them. They practically just learn how to "be blind" the same way a chicken who was born without eyes does it. Still able to eat and drink and get around, but can't protect itself since it can't see that something is trying to get it!

My preferred tool I use are those tiny scissors they use to cut out stitches from wounds.

X2 , I prefer my silkies to have vision.

I have a Silkie question, my questionable silkies that I had posted a couple weeks back are now 20 and 21 weeks old. Should I expect an egg soon from anyone and what are the signs that the female is going into adulthood? My other chickens get red combs and faces, squat, they get noisier with the older chicken voice. But I've never raised a Silkie to point of lay so I don't know what I'm looking for? My first silkie girl was about 2 years old and had little wattles and she had a small straight comb (she was pet quailty) and they were kinda reddish in color but since she was poor quailty and my new girls are much better quality they don't have the reddish combs or much for wattles if any. Thank you for any input

As with all things ' silkie ' there are no hard and fast rules. I've had them go into lay any where from 24 weeks -40 weeks. Squatting and a disproportionately loud egg song are probably all I can say I have noticed. Be warned , the little fluffies can go broody 3 weeks later.

Help! At what point do you step in and assist in a hatch? This is my first hatch. I have 5 healthy Frizzled Sizzles that have hatched already. I have one that has zipped about an inch but has not made any progress in 12 hours. It has been chirping and breathing heavy. I think it is in a bad position to zip. I am assuming all that is zipped is where the tip of her beak is and her vent. I think her legs are in a strange position maybe? How long can she hold on before giving up. I have one chick in the bator, and Im going to leave her in there hoping she keeps little eggy going... Any thoughts? I posted in the hatching section but Im nervous so I figured someone here would know something that can help me.

I have a hen that is 3 years old ,and is acting like she has no depth perception. Her head kinda sways when she is sitting still. I've got her on poly vi sol. She seems like she may have some respiratory stuff too. No drainage but she breathes with her mouth open sometimes and her eyes seem squinty. Her stool is normal. She eats and drinks. Has a little trouble finding the food though. She knows where it is, just has trouble discerning how close it is to her face. She pecks air sometimes. She is also trying to be broody, so thats complicating things a bit. She seems to feel fine, just dizzy. Its really weird.I just wormed them 2 days ago with valbazen. She was acting like this before that though. I was also going to treat for coccidia with corid if the yellow foamy poops from some of the others isnt fixd with the valbazen, but if she is having a vitamin deficiency, Im not sure thats a good idea. Any thoughts?I know silkies are prone to this stuff. I just want to get her treated before it gets worse. I did do an intial corid treatment a month ago. Would that have depleted her vitamins enough toocause this?

What color would that make it? I've never had a blue with all that Buff color in it neither parent is Blue.
