Silkie thread!

Soooooo no good for breeding ?

I'm using blue roos(2) with leakage over my splash Silkies, white Sizzle, and black frizzle Silkie hens. I have gotten the prettiest variety of chicks. I figure if I work on getting all the other aspects of the breed right then I will worry about the leakage. My frizzle and sizzle are beardless these roos are near perfect because they have big crest and beards.

so i got some silkie eggs from the 24 hr auction, 9 arrived with no cracks and perfectly packaged, just jiggly aircells. Last thursday was day seven. At candling only 1 was clear the other 5 had crystal clear bloodrings. 3 are left, but I dont have much hope for these guys. We did have a 45min temp spike of 104, that couldve done it....but its a still air so idk maybe bad luck.

Pic of front.

Looks partridge.

Hi. I have a question about feeding layer pellets. OK, so my chick starter/grower says to start layer pellets at 16 weeks and I think that would be fine for my sex links and Australorp, but I'm not sure that the silkie can have layer pellets at that age. So can she? When do Silkies start laying anyway?

Layer pellets will generally have a higher calcium level , check the label on the bag. Silkies can come in to lay from 20 weeks onwards but some are late starters. It would be safer to give them all something like ' flock raiser ' and supply crushed oyster shell in the coop on ' free take ' for those that require it.

Three weeks ago I picked up a silkie chick at about 7 days old from the feedstore. From her markings I was so sure she was a partridge:

And here she is at 4 weeks of age. Her brown plumage has faded out a bit.

So, is she a partridge, a gray, or a muddled mix? She has 6 toes!

I think she's still a type of partridge. Who's the chick in front of her in pic http://puu.sh/aslCT/b961504e69.jpg?
