Silkie thread!

Yeah that all looks fairly normal. There might be some breakage in the flights. Have you checked him for lice and mites? The hackles are a defence mechanism .

I did not see any lice or mites. Why would he feel a need for defense against us? Right now he is a house chicken. He goes where he wants and eats anything he finds interesting. Diced tomato pieces, lettuce, cheese, bread, pizza, that sort of thing that gets flung in his direction.

Oh it's really just a case of ' small man ' syndrome .

I'm not sure which hen you are referring to but here is the standard for the US. http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Standard.html
Sorry. What I meant was, y'all were showing pics of what a Silkie roosters comb should look like, but is a silkie hens comb supposed to look like that too?? Both of my girls just have black bumpy looking things. Lol
Hi Silkie lovers! I occasionally pop in to see all the beautiful Silkies and just wanted to share my little ones i hatched last weekend.

I got my new Silkie babies Saturday!!!!! :D They were 2 days old at the time, and SOOOOO small. My big brooder is split in half so I moved my bigger babies to the grow out and my 2 week olds to the other side, so my 3 tiny silkies have half all to themselves! Lol They look so funny with all that space! I got 3 blues, HOPING for at least 1 pullet!!!

Beautiful! I love Silkie crosses.
Thank you Suz! I love this little red girl. I've got plans for her in my Red Silkie project. She came from a recessive white silkie male on a bantam Rhode Island Red hen. I've tried the cross with my Paint male on the red hens but only get paints so far. He's the only silkie male I have of breeding age right now.

The Paint male is giving me a wide variety of chick colors. Crazy! But crazy in a good way. These three hatched over the weekend. A lavender, a blue/red, and a dark blue.

That dark flecking makes me curious if this will be a lavender paint?

I've never had a chick with this color down. Blue and red. From Paint x Blue Partridge.

This dark blue chick is a fat little pudgy! All three chicks by the same paint cock on a lavender and Blue Partridge hens. If that Red/Blue chick is male, I will put him with the half breed red silkie. If it's female, I'll put her in the porcelain project.
