Silkie thread!

@themadchicken little chick is standing this morning on her own, tried taping her last night and it just seemed to promote her sitting on her bum and she couldn't walk at all, pulled tape off and let her and I sleep. So happy to see her stand! Contacted a local Silkie owner and she thought because she's so chubby it took her longer to get the strength up, who knew chicks could be chubs? LOL! Thank you much for the article, I'm working on a good wrap now for her hatch mates foot, that was in the article too! Thank you so much!!!

Beware the broody Silkie disease! If one gets it usually all them do. I had 4 hens share a egg crate nesting box and hatched 15 babies! They shared mothering duty lol

hahah! I wish I had a silkie for the 10 I have in the bator now! I have Speckled Sussex, Speckled Sussex/Red sex links, and speckled Sussex/Leghorn. These will be out egg/meat birds. When the Silkies hatch out they will be about 10 days younger than the eggs I am incubating now. Would it be okay to brood them all together after a few days? Assuming everyone is healthy. I'm not sure how much bigger they are going to be than the silkies. But wasplanning on rasing them all together until it's time to introduce the mixes to the current flock. So brood together then go to the outside pen together. The outside pen will be 6x6 coop with a run of 25x20 or 50x20 haven't decided yet.

Glad your little one is up and about. It can take some 48 hrs to get moving, depends how difficult the hatch was. Whilst it is important to fix splayed leg early I would be inclined to wait awhile .
