Cuties!

And, I've been reading about Careful Eddy's head bobbing and thought I'd chime in.

My rooster, Early, does the same thing. Sometimes he gets to bobbing so badly he looks like he's rocking out at a heavy metal concert. Anyway, his was caused by a peck to the head. When he was introduced to my hens, one of them decided she didn't care for him and kicked his butt all up and down the run. She got him one good time on his vault and knocked him on his butt. That's the day he became a rock star and he's done it ever since. Nothing has helped it, but its also never gotten any worse. He manages to mate the hens and go about his normal rooster duties without issue though. In fact, he rules the roost in my Silkie flock.

I'm sure that's probably not what you're wanting to hear, but that's been my experience. I'm alot more careful now about introducing new Silkies to my flock (and no longer have that mean hen) and haven't had it happen since.

Good luck with your guy!

Very encouraging to hear ! I've been so afraid my lil silkie would get worse & ultimately have to be culled to prevent suffering...so this is great news to hear from my perspective!!! Love the rock star comparasion lol

This is what I was thinking. Im glad you were able to chime in and help me out. Especially since I have been stuffing pills down his little throat. If nothing helped your Early, then stuffing pills into Careful Eddy is ridiculous. Its great you were able to see how it was done and who did it. I have a few culprits that may have done this. There is one brute in there, his hatch mate Capone, aptly named for his gangsta antics... He thinks he can step up to anyone! I caught him starting with Big Tuna, the 4 month old splash silkie roo. Made him bleed! So I think that may be the one who pecked Careful Eddy. I know someone who really loves Capone, I was falling in love with his coloring so far, so I was reluctant to give him up, but since I have so many roos, it would be easier to give a bully that I haven't yet gotten attached to away.

But the male i'm talking about have only hard feathers on his feet (it's foot is only covered with black hard feathers). The pic you posted above, the male carrying only one hard feather. To be very honest with you, I'm planing to buy it, and I don't want to get any cross bred silkie in my flock. That is why i'm just asking this.

Without pics I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to whether or not it is a xbreed. :)

I'm not sure what pills you using but it's much easier to add poultry vitamin powder to the drinking water. Injury /peck to the head can cause cerebral hernia but so too can hot weather if your birds have vaulted skulls.

Here's the link, go down the left hand side to ' cerebral hernia ' . :)
