Silkie thread!

Does her head go up underneath her and does she drag it around? I've had a one of these before. You can give her a little piece of baby aspirin, not regular aspirin. About a 1/4 of a piece. And Poly-Vi-Sol. 1ml of it but if it's a young pullet maybe 0.5ml. Make sure to get the one without iron.

I have a multi vitamin the vet gave me. I haven't been to walmart yet so haven't gotten the aspirin. I lookd at Dollar General but they didn't have it. Walmart is not close but I have to go to town tomorrow so I'll get it then.

She don't curl her head under her but it does tend to fall back sometimes. Mostly when she's trying to make me stop feeding her with the tube. She don't like it. I don't blame her. She mostly holds her head up like normal. She will sit in my lap for hours and she dont look like anything is wrong with her at all till she decides to change positions. I keep her in a pet carrier so she can prop herself up on the sides and not end up laying on her side like she would in a cage. I get her out several times a day and first I put her on a towel on the floor with a bowl of food and one of water in front of her and I prop her up with my feet so she can eat what she wants before I take over and finish the job.

How often should I give her the 1/4 aspirin?.

Is that baby aspirin or adult? I'm tking a pic of it so when I go to walmart I can find it easier.

I just pulled the label off the box of vitamins I have and it has 12.5mg of iron. I won't be using that again. It was given by the vet to another rooster and he survived.

niacin 10.0mg
vitamin b6 1.0mg
vitamin b12 2.1mg

The other ingredients is corn syrup,water, sugar, glycerin, beef liver pasteiron proteinate, preserved with potassium sorbate, vitamin b12 supplement, thiamine hydrochloride. pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin5 phosphate, cupric sulfate, natural anise flavor, sodium hydroxide

Wow I never read all that before. It makes me want to throw it out. I'll be getting the poly vi sol no iron as well as the aspirin.

Hi I am hoping to start showing and maybe breeding silkies. should i look for a local breeder or just buy hatchery chicks? Are hatchery chicks quality enough for showing? and breeding? Im just wondering, I just love the breed

I've decided to move away from the Silkies and focus on Salmon Favs... now I have to decide who to keep and who to let go of.

I have a roo, 3 years old, buff with blue ehrmm... accents? (I was told he was 'smutty buff'). He's staying.
Hen wise, I have:
~White hen, 3-4 years old, ten toes, but one has a double claw. A couple black feathers in her tail. Currently broody, and quite a good mother.
~Lavender hen, 3 years old, a bit small, with a diminutive top knot and nine toes.
~2 Light and one Dark Partridge, 2 years old. No real issues, but top knots aren't very impressive.
~Wheaten(?) hen... looks light buff over creamy white, a touch of barring in her wingtips. 1.5 - 2 years old, Average top knot.
~3 Blue hens, approx. 1.5 - 2 years old, bought from a local breeder with nicer quality birds. One has a pretty impressive top knot.
~2 Silver Partridge pullets, almost 1 year old, the best top knots out of my birds so far. One is slightly darker than the other. I *think* they have proper toes too.
Also, I just hatched out some Silkies and Silkie/Frizzles, and of the ones I'm thinking of keeping, I have two that are lavender (maybe light blue, not sure yet)... one frizzled, one normal.

I'm thinking of keeping one of each color, the oldest white gal, the dark partridge, the 'wheaten', the blue with the biggest top knot, a silver partridge, and one of the lavender chicks if they are female. I might keep a light partridge too, but I favor the dark over the light.

What do you guys think? I'm mainly in it just for the fun, but I don't want to produce sub-par birds either. (I do like getting 'interesting' colors though lol!)

I think I would just keep all the silkies and add a few Faverolles. I have a dozen silkie eggs in my incubator. And I bought them a special coop already.

Lol if only I could! I promised the hubs I'd let some go if I got the Favs, and I'm sure he'll keep me to my word.

I am going to sell my frizzles for sure though...

That's way too much iron, are they poultry vitamins ? If you feel that this is a cerebral hemorrhage a short course of prednisone may help with the swelling, however if it is wry neck or star gazing thiamine and a little vitamin E would be more effective.

I set it at 100.01 so it would stay at 100 but for some reason it would drop to 96

My still air does that now. How old is the bator? Is it a little giant or a hovabator or another type of still air? The little giants sometimes have trouble with stable temps. That is I why do not do anything still air or in styrafoam.


On another note has anyone noticed that Little Giant redid there new model with digital control instead of that crappy little knob?

Are they sq? I would just keep 1 hen of the colors you like. Or keep a few hens that can produce many different colored offspring.

Hatcheries focus more on quantity and less on quality, so to get good show-potential birds, I would get some from a breeder. I haven't had owned a hatchery silkie nor have I seen one up close so I don't know if they could be show, but if the birds don't have any DQ's, they could be shown even of they aren't "show quality"
