Yours is wryneck. Be careful not to overdose on the thiamine B 1 . Too much can cause anorexia and too much selenium can be fatal. I would give either the yeast or polyvisol , but not both.

I had a hen that developed wry neck while sitting on eggs. I gave her a vitamin E everyday and she pulled out of it. It seems silkies are high maintenance.

I must be very fortunate as I have no trouble with my silkies. (knock on wood) They are just happy and healthy. I do feed them treats (mealy worms) occasionally but other than that they just eat pellets and scratch, I do have to keep a heat lamp nearby when it stays below freezing for days at a time but I thank that is mostly for me.

They are the best at brightening my day.

Hi silkie experts! I've got a crowing quandary...

We have a small mixed backyard flock, two of our feathered friends are silkies. They're all a little over 4 months old.

A couple weeks ago, someone started crowing. None of the other chickens have any physical rooster qualities so it leads me to believe it has to be a silkie. The odd part (to me, who is a novice and as such is seeking advice of experts) the crowing only happens about once a week, 3 - 5 crow bursts and if you hear it and coming running into view to try and see who it is, then they stop.

I was able to see them from a window this morning and still couldn't tell who it was. They were all kind of laying in a heap on the floor of the run and not one seemed to be making any physical effort to indicate crowing. Is that normal? Or even possible? I feel like a crazy person...

It sounds pretty normal, particularly if it is indeed a Silkie roo. One of my boys never shuts up and the other I only hear about once a week.

Do you mean mixed colors?

I think my silkie roosters made a baby with my sebright hen but my silkie hen hatched it with her eggs lol I'm not sure I give them free range now and then

It would be highly unlikely for a cross such as that to produce birds with silkied feathers.

I have already cut back on the vitamins. He is still getting the vitamin E and probiotic vitamins in his water.
