Silkie thread!

I had a hen that developed wry neck while sitting on eggs. I gave her a vitamin E everyday and she pulled out of it. It seems silkies are high maintenance.

It can seem that way but I think it is more as a result of their constant desire to brood. They are only small birds and the long periods of little or no sustainence will eventually take its toll their bodies in one form or another. I have often wondered if it has anything to do with the dark pigmentation of the skin and whether or not their absorption rate differs to other breeds. Regardless I love my little silkies and have bred them for 10 years, they certainly are the ' teddy bear ' of chickens.

Hi silkie experts! I've got a crowing quandary...

We have a small mixed backyard flock, two of our feathered friends are silkies. They're all a little over 4 months old.

A couple weeks ago, someone started crowing. None of the other chickens have any physical rooster qualities so it leads me to believe it has to be a silkie. The odd part (to me, who is a novice and as such is seeking advice of experts) the crowing only happens about once a week, 3 - 5 crow bursts and if you hear it and coming running into view to try and see who it is, then they stop.

I was able to see them from a window this morning and still couldn't tell who it was. They were all kind of laying in a heap on the floor of the run and not one seemed to be making any physical effort to indicate crowing. Is that normal? Or even possible? I feel like a crazy person...

Thanks!

lovely birds ! The one in the first pic could be your culprit.

As you should be.  They're beautiful birds.  You actually have me rethinking my strict color segregation rules. lol

Do these feathers look normal for a silkie? Also does his feathers make him look unhealthy? I feel like he looks different than my first....
