Silkie thread!

I came home from work today to check on my mama's and babies to find out my son had to separate these 3 babies from there mom she was beating them up this little buff I guess got the worst of it she really pecked his head I was devastated I don't know why she turned on them but my son said she was hunting them down and the babies were hidden under her sometimes does anyone know why she would do that

Judy sometimes they will turn on 1 chick if they feel that it is sick and I have seen a momma get carried away when there was too much human interference.
The wound doesn't look too bad , but now you will have to provide them with heat and all their other needs. Perhaps when you have the time to sit with them you could give her an opportunity to take them back on, but it is risky and I would only do it under supervision. If you have some vetericyne , you could pop a little on the wound. :)

Are silkies hardy? I'm thinking of getting some
I only provide a heat lamp for the young ones. It got down below zero and we had several feet of snow. One of my pens actually had my silkies trapped in their house because the snow drift in front of their door was so high. They all did fine. I didn't have any catch colds this year.

On another note, the pullet that I've been helping getting over a brain injury is still improving. She will do fine while I'm gone in a couple of weeks. She eats on her own. Not enough to make me happy but she won't starve. I'm still tube feeding her once or twice a day. Depends on how often I see her eat on her own. She is still getting the vitamins everyday and I've started adding cooked egg yolk to the food I feed her. She won't eat it on her own. I even tried putting it in her beak and she swallowed what I put in there but didn't take another bite on her own so she's getting it in her feed. I'm trying to fatten her up so when I'm gone she won't loose too much weight. That is if she hasn't picked up eating on her own more by then. I have somebody to come and feed and water but they don't know how to tube feed and I don't want to take the chance of them doing it wrong and killing her after all this work i've done already to keep her going and getting her better.

She is going to be a donation for an auction for St Jude. The woman that does the PNIP and AI testing has a benefit every year to raise money for St Jude and I always donate silkies for the auction. Last year she raised $97,000 in a weekend. It's a big event. I donated 4 silkies and a home made quilt last year and I plan to donate more silkies this year.
