Silkie thread!

I have tiny bantams that will hop right onto my hand to get picked up out of the tub, my standard size chicks can be down right pests they all try to pile on me at the same time, but my silkies want absolutely nothing to do with me

I found Silkies and Ameraucanas are discerning and picky. They like to do things of their own choosing in their own time where other breeds like a Breda will come up unafraid and let you carry them around. Our Silkie that we had to keep in the house until she was old enough to blend with the outdoor flock was very particular about where she roosted. The kennel wasn't good enough for her. She preferred a certain chair at the kitchen table pushed all the way under the table where it was secluded. She let us know she wanted up when she kept looking up at the chair and then at us to lift her up. It didn't matter to her that we weren't done with dinner! We had a little portable floor fan that she would tap on it to let us know she wanted us to turn it on. If we didn't turn it on she would pull on our socks or pant leg to get our attention. Silkies seem to like air circulating through their feathers. She didn't like wearing her diaper and after a few times struggling to get all ten of her toes through the straps she got easier to handle - especially sitting in a dish tub to get her tush washed after the diaper was removed every night. She didn't like all the handling but after 3 months of diapers and tush baths she got very maleable. Offering hand treats every time we handled her was a reward and made her willing to cooperate each successive time. We can hold her nearly upside-down to give her injections without a struggle. Now that she's outdoors she climbs on our shoes when she sees us walking with treats in our hands. Be patient with your Silkies - they get somewhat easier to handle after about 6-8 months depending on how much and confidently you handle them and how many treats you have available!

Would someone post a pic of a Show quality silkie. Nice to have a visual.

Are silkies pretty much the hardest to get show perfection?

This is my blue ribbon winner.

I am treating a cross beak chick right now. A vet gave her to me and taught me what to do. She was going to keep him but wanted someone else to learn who was willing to take the time to do the care. Initially there was clipping with baby nail clippers followed by filing. He (I suspect) wasnt even dry from hatching the first time. If you clip too far the beak may bleed a little. The idea is to reshape the beak as it grows, and encourage it into right position.and the need to adjust becomes less and less. The first week he was worked on twice but since then it has been once a week. At first you'd think I was killing him when I did it but now be patiently sits while I file. He does get a little stressed when I do it but he gets extra cuddle time and some banana and is fine
He is 5 weeks old now. I love him.. He is so sweet. Since treatment was started immediately after hatching this week there was little to do. You would have a little more work to do. The vet has one hen she got at a week old who after about 8 months she has not had to touch her. I dont know much about one eye other than I've seen people on BYC have one that they are able to raise well.
I have a quick question when I picked up my newest chicks at tractor supply, there's 2 girls that know me pretty well there, one of them brought some standard chick out and asked if id take it home poor thing has cross beak and 1 eye. Is there anything I can do to help this chick live or would it be best to let nature take its course its such a sweet chick and I feel so sorry for it so of course I said id take it home

It's impossible not to fall in love with them imo. I answered my door when my brother stopped by holding one and he was not of the same opinion. He had never seen a silkie and pronounced her the ugliest chicken he has ever seen.
