Silkie thread!

Do any of you guys have any guesses on the genders of these three? I bought them from my breeder at 8 weeks old, and now they are about 14 weeks. I swear the first is a cockerel because his comb is huge and he's got so little feathering. The second looks so much like a girl, but i'm not so sure anymore. The last I have no idea. I probably can't keep any of them if they are all boys because I am keeping their big brother for my black pen this year. #1 #2 #3
Not sure about 1 2&3 look like girls to me. I hope they sre for you.

I had to show everyone my husbands cute little 7 weeks old silver partridge boy, Cocoa He started crowing last Saturday. Cutest thing I had ever heard.

He is so curious about everything.

I did some table topping with some of my cockerels today. I do this to get up close to them, handle them for a couple days, and judge them to other cockerels for quality. Taking pictures helps me see things that are not always easily apparent watching them in the pen or yard.

These are my two F1 Blue Cream (Porcelain) cocks. They are a year old next month. I'm using the one on the left. The one on the right is his full brother but he has what's called crab claws. Some people call it lobster claw. He is my back up but I won't breed him unless I lose my #1 on the left. Those types of toes are hard to get rid of in your flock if they get bred in to much.

This guy is nine months old and is a paint cockerel from my F1 paint pen. I like him so far. His type isn't as great as his sire yet. He also doesn't have a lot of big spots but he will be my back up to his dad if he continues to develop nicely. He has a dripping paint saddle feather. At first I thought something was on my camera lens but it shows up in all the pictures. Hah!

What is a good age to start breeding? Mine are way to young now, I actually still have my silkies and bantams inside I have 3 different groups ranging from 7 weeks to a week, I believe they were day olds to maybe 3 days when I got them, most still had an egg tooth for a few days, I really wanted some paints but I have solid colors except a dark partridge and my youngest I'm super curious to see how it colors, its down is 4 colors, white, yellow, light grey, and a gold or light red, so far its wing tips are white but I think its going to be different, I'm hopping all are bearded they all had really fluffy cheeks. Don't get mad but I didn't like silkies, until I got my own then did some looking online at pics and now they're one of my favorites

, all my chicks are from tsc so I'm not expecting blue ribbon show winners or anything, I went with tsc so I could pick each individual color and chick. My chicks started off being sweet and loving but as there growing there not liking handling much maybe once there outside and can come to me willingly they will mellow back out. I have one little black that has a white patch under its beak I hope it stays its really cute and the easiest way to tell my 2 blacks apart. There down looks grey and black I wonder if they will turn solid black or be a little mingled, either way is fine with me. Its been a down pour here at home so I've been keeping them in, all the rain has kept me from getting there coop ready but luckily everyone is still small and split up in cages by age and size. I've seen some silkie crosses anyone know what a silkie EE cross would look like?

If you google the cross you will get a general idea. They're very interesting looking. I have a rir/EE hen in with my silkies and I plan to hatch a couple of her eggs. I can't wait to see how they turn out. She should start laying anytime now.

@tinkerfairy My EE silkie crosses and I have 7 more in the incubator due to hatch Friday.

You might see a glimpse of my bantam barred rock in the background but the crosses are the two in front.

GUYS!!

My white silkie girl laid her first egg today!!! It was so small compared to our other hens eggs but I'm hoping they get bigger as she lays more, haha.

So happy and excited

Our Silkies lay 1.25 oz eggs - not sure how that translates in grams since my scale is in ounces. Compared to smaller bantam breeds the Silkie eggs are pretty hefty. Did your girl do an egg song? We have one Black Silkie that squawks at the top of her lungs when laying and we have one dainty Partridge girl that never lets you know she's layed her egg.
