Silkie thread!

Thanks everyone I think mine may be a touch older maybe 6 weeks. They seem to be a little bigger some of them anyway.

So are silkies considered a bantam breed or are they LF?

. I have 8 silkies. Is it odd for 4 of them to be about double the size of the other 4 and they all be from the same hatch from the same hen and rooster hatched naturally

Their size depends on where you are. In the US, we have bantams. Across the big pond, they have both bantam and standard.
And no, its not unusual for there to be size differences. Some of mine are on the small size, some on the big

Thank you. People often think because I'm an old timer and raise a hundred chicks a year that I must be jaded to the cuteness. Not so. I adore them and have a chair and table set up smack dab in the middle of an outside grow out run so I can play with them every day. It's where I enjoy my morning coffee and evening libation. The babies are the joy of my life.

I agree. Different strains run in different sizes. Keep to standard weights when showing.

Oh I won't be showing. These are just pets for the kids and to get some eggs along the way. I keep hearing of chicken math so I'm sure I'll have some more before I know it

I live in Mt and we want some silkies really bad. We are trying hard to hatch but we keep getting eggs that are broken or don't seem to be fertilized we are just starting a 2nd set but most of them were broken so we only ended up with 3. We are also trying to hatch call ducks but want the silkies more

There is a big poultry show coming up in Missoula, Montana. Not sure how close or far that is from you but you should find some great silkie breeders there.

I have a question.
What color is my Rooster? His mom was a Blue Silkie. Father is the white silkie pictured below. I added pictures of the Roo in question. I have chicks in the same color as him, that came from the same breeding pair (blue hen/white roo). I pictured one of them so you could see the chick down in the color I'm asking about. I thought maybe he was some sort of Partridge color. I don't know tons about Silkie colors though.
