Silkie thread!

We don't have roosters so she isn't sitting on any eggs (although maybe I should give her some golf balls or something so she can get out of her broodyness earlier?) so I'm not worried about her leaving the nest. I'll try buy something like you said that hangs off the side so she can't knock it over

Ummm, if she's not sitting on fertile eggs then she might try to stay there until something does hatch... in other words, either get her up and active each day or break her broodiness... Silkies are wonderful, but not known for being the brightest bulb around...

Just my opinion... :)

Hi,
I have 2 silkies and was wondering whether you have trouble with their broodiness? I know that when mine are both broody, it can be a nightmare!

Hehe, that's what silkie ares renowned for. On the bright side they are very good surrogate mommas.

ALL of my Silkie hens have gone broody in the last week. I think that, at least with Silkies, broodiness is contagious. Fortunately my incubator is full of Silkie eggs or I'd be a bit perturbed that they've gone on strike. lol

Trouble? Trouble stopping them sometimes!...They are living incubators we can stick any eggs under...We will control their time though, never more than 2 cycles, then they have to get up for a while(we'll collect all their eggs for a bit)...

My first silkie... She is a bit rough around the edges but I hope some serious tlc will get her lookin better
I have a little hen that looks just about like her. She came from "show" stock but really isn't very showy. She makes THE MOST BEAUTIFUL babies.

Is it just from being outside? I know with most of ours, if brought inside or it doesn't rain for weeks, which we haven't seen in forever, they look extremely showy

but let it rain, as it has the last 2 days and wallah, instant mess, for the next weeks this is closer to how she will look!(I just took this of her a minute ago)..
