Silkie thread!

Oh lord my little One Eye (SilkieX) and Green (White Silkie) appear have gone broody. I can't decide if I'm happy or not. On one hand, my incubators are completely full so yay extra hatchlings! On the other hand, these are the ones who are supposed to be LAYING the eggs for me to hatch!!

Mine are doin the same thing! They are brooding on eggs instead of laying them!

Hehe, it's autumn here and many of my girls are raising coronation Sussex for me. Two new Broodies yesterday and I am busy collecting silver laced Wyandotte eggs to keep them employed.

Are the Coronations not a broody breed? I was offered a free breeding pair if I continued the project but I'm not zoned for roos

They can be, but their shear weight makes them a little dangerous with hatching chicks. I've had a couple of disastrous scenarios where momma has squashed the hatching chick when ' muscling down ' to protect her eggs from others. Silkies are just born to incubate and as I said , I have to keep them actively employed to justify the feed . :)
They are the cutest chicks.

gonna have to agree with you on that. It is hard to tell in the pics who is who, but 3/4 of the birds (from bottom down) I'm gonna have to say 99.9% roo. The last couple pics could very possibly be female, but it's still hard to tell at this age.
crossing my fingers for at least 2 girls
Anyone interested in silkie roos.....
