Just thought I'd share some cute pictures of my new silkies. I got two hens for my porcelain project pen and five little chicks, too.

Silkes go through a severe case of scroungy looking as they loose their fuzz and get feathers. They will look a lot better a month from now. Those odd marking on the wing are just partridge coloring. That chick looks pretty normal to me for 4-5 weeks old. I wouldn't worry too much.

Oh thank goodness ,they seem healthy n ply n eat alot,ty i feel much better, was really worried something was wrong with them

What do you guys think of these 6-week old chicks?

Father is a blue frizzled bantam cochin. Mother could be my cuckoo bantam cochin, or one of 2 white silkies that I have (very low quality silkies, I might add)

3 blue, 3 black. All have black/slate skin, 3 have walnut combs, 3 have straight combs. Only 1 has 5 toes. What do you call a silkie/cochin cross?

Oh, I also got a pretty black frizzled one, but don't have a recent pic. Will get one soon.

I need help! I went to hold my silkie roo and he hates being handled so I have trouble actually holding him. Anyways long story short I picked him up he started freakin out and jumped out of my arms and chipped the front upper tip of his beak. What do I do?

Why does my silkie roo do this but only if I'm holding him?

He freaks out when I pick him up and he pants and acts like he's having an anxiety attack or something. Should I be concerned

The thing about silkie's is that you want to socialize them when they are baby baby chicks, ours our 9 weeks old. They are also very very skidish. But once we have them and are playing with them, they calm down and realize it's just us and we won't harm them. You don't want to move quick to them and scare them. You want to make them feel comfortable with you. Slow movements, and baby talk them.

I understand that. I've been told several times and no matter how slowly I move towards him or how low the the ground I make myself or baby talk he freaks. :/
But is it normal for him to be panting and spreading his wings out like he's hot when he's in a 68 degree room?
