Silkie thread!

Ok I am going to ask what is everyone's favorite color of silkie as the orange one that I got died this morning and I will be replacing it and I will also be getting another one so it isn't all by itself when I introduce it and so if it don't want to go with the rest of the silkies it has a busy

I want one of every color! LOL

My favorite is Buff, followed by Partridge, Black, and Splash. Buff is probably my favorite because of my girl Taylor, she's just such a pretty shade... looks like gold in the sunlight.

Just got home to surprise Silkie and Booted Bantam babies. They were not due till tomorrow. Then again this may have been one of the batches I set in the evening, so maybe they are right on time! This is indeed the batch with 5 SLS (thats the acronym I've been using for the sex link Silkies) eggs. This is the first to hatch and the rest are either pipped or rocking. Can't tell if it's a cockerel or a pullet yet, still so wet, but it is another black baby! Suggesting all black chicks I've hatched have indeed been pullet offspring of my SLS breeding. I'm definitely excited for this hatch.

Yes it does but they haven't even pipped and have stopped moving. I am considering candling them but I'm not very familiar with that process and know it can be dangerous during the lockdown period. It's almost day 23 and I'm losing hope. Any ideas?

21 days is only a guide, I've had them hatch any where from day 18-26. If you decide to candle , keep the egg laying on the same side it is in the incubator, use a warm wet face washer to keep the moisture around the egg whilst handling it. If you didn't candle at day 7 it might well be ' a clear ' anyway.

I love my silkies, but I really like my white ones. I have white and black. I have some buff chicks on order. I would love to have 2 of every Color. The biggest issue for me though is being able to keep the colors separate.

Sorry to hear you lost a Silkie. Never easy to lose a bird

I love all the Silkie varieties. But for outdoor romping and digging I found the Partridge the best for not showing mud and dirt or stains. My Black Silkie was cute as a pullet but at 4-yrs-old a lot of her black feathering is showing too much red/rust. I think the fluffy Whites are so-o-o cute but not for my backyard free-ranging.

4-yr-old Black Silkie showing red/rust in feathers. I probably will go with Partridge instead of Black next time for our backyard.

Black Silkie pullet all black with no rusty feathers. I never intended to get a Black Silkie but when we saw her we had to have her.
